Default Offset for Winter Wheels

My new 2011 Q5 2.0T is due in early December and I am going to go ahead and order a dedicated set of wheels and winter tires from Tire Rack. The stock 19 inchers that are coming on the car have an offset of +39mm and I have noticed that most of the good and light wheels on Tire Rack have an offset of +32mm in the 18x8 size.

For those that have looked into and ordered winter wheels for their Q5 do you think the 7mm difference (about 0.27 inches) will make any difference in appearance or handling? The wheels would basically stick out another 0.27 inches on either side of the car.

Thanks for the input.

I'm also ordering from tirerack and have done a lot of research on offsets. If the wheels you are looking at are recommended by tirerack for the Q5 then they have factored in this window for the offset. I am looking at the 35mm offset, 4mm shouldn't make any difference. In fact i think most people that ordered 18 inch winters for their Q5's don't have a 39mm offset on their aftermarket wheels. As long as you are in the 30's you should be fine. Check out this VERY useful link, you will have a blast using it to pick wheels and tires and making sure they are the perfect match.

Stick to the absolute exact measurements. Do a search in this forum there are MANY Q5 related posts outlining in details what the size should be.

Thanks.
