Default New Q3.

Hit the parts dept of Glenmore Audi Last week and in the parking lot was two brand new Q3's.
Smaller than the Q5 ........... but the sales guys were saying a fully loaded S-line was big money.

I saw a lot of these over in China earlier this year... I kept thinking they were Q5's at first glance from the front or back, but then the side profile sure makes them stick out.

I think the only way for these to sell well here is to raise the price of the Q5, I can't see them selling the Q3 for the same price as a Rav4 or CRV.

I think they are due for a new Q5 model pretty soon which will give them an excuse... we had the refresh already, so they should be rolling out an all new model within a year or two.

Q5 should be refreshed mid next year for a brand new 2016.

I've just visited Glenmore Audi and I think Q3 is way overpriced . Technik lineup is almost $47,000 with all fees and GST . Q5 is slightly over $49,000 ..... so what's a point buying Q3 this year ?

Lease and finance rates are ridiculously high and the engine is only 200 HP . Btw , Is this the same old engine from Q5's previous years that had a oil consumption problems ?

What do you think guys ? I'm just selling my 3 years old X1 and I'm on the market for another crossover .

Thanks

the only Q5 youd be getting into for under 50k after all fees and taxes is a base model not a technik or whatever they call premium nowadays. and the 200hp engine is the inferior 2.0t that audi used to put in the old A3 and TT and also in VW's GTi and tiguan etc.. not sure what problems those had, cant imagine they are any better than the q5's iteration.

Odd that they would go with the 200/208 engine. The 210/258 engine is now standard on the Golf GTI. Other than the name, what differentiates the Q3 from the Tiguan?

I got my 14' 2.0T Q5 Progressiv (AKA Premium) for 47K out the door, I did skimp on the moonroof simply because I have never liked them much (adds weight that impacts handling and consumption, adds cost, potential to leak, etc..), but aside from that I was happy with all of the features it came with.

As for the engine; the 2.0T also makes slightly more power in the 2014 (220hp) than it did in the 2013 (211hp) for whatever reason, and despite the fact that people love to hate on it, I'd say it is a very good engine overall. Paired with the 8 speed it also makes the car feel a lot quicker than other vehicles with bigger horse power numbers. Take the fact that the 2.0T the earlier models were able to get 7s (C&D) in the 0-60mph sprint, so the 2014's and newer are probably even a touch quicker than that. All while still getting some pretty decent fuel mileage numbers, mine actually gets better consumption in and around the city than my 2011 Honda CR-V did. It also hauls *** like you wouldn't believe on major grades on the highway, I pretty much pass everybody while the engine idles up some of these monstrous hills.

So I don't know what you are talking about it being inferior?

Like I've been saying, the next refresh of the Q5 is probably going to drive the price way up so that the Q3 gets its own little niche'... above your standard mid level CUV or Crossover, but below the Q5 so it still sells. To pull this off I am expecting the next Q5 to be pretty lavish though.

I've had my Q5 for just over a year, no issues with oil consumption so far. Still loving it as my DD.

The Q5 was down on power compared to most of the cars I was test driving on paper, but I found the delivery of that power, and the Q5's torque peak (258ft-lbs) being available at 1500rpm made up for it easily. I found myself saying a few times "How is this is only 220hp". The diesel GLK for instance had over 400ft-lbs, but it just felt slow... the BMW X3 on the other hand had more power, but it felt very unrefined in comparison, I kept expecting a piston to shoot through the hood whenever I put my foot into it.

I also got annoyed with the X3's start stop and regen brakes (both of those sound like maintenance nightmares down the road). The GLK also has a bunch of nanny systems (like the sleepy coffee cup icon) that would drive you bonkers on a long trip. The Q5 is a little low on tech compared to those.... but it can be had cheaper, and honestly the driving dynamics are a nice mix of sporty and luxury... whereas the BMW is all sports all the time, and the Merc is just cushy luxury.

It is pretty subjective stuff, best thing you can do is narrow down your top 5 choices and book a day test driving them.

Congrats on that deal, it sounds better than most. Here in toronto I've yet to hear someone get more than 2k off of a new Q5 (thats isnt a end of year clearance model, at least). I think he was referring to MSRP vs MSRP tho, the MSRP on yours, plus the tax woulda pushed it to far over 50k.

Glad to hear you like your Q5, its a great car.

Mine was full MSRP, we only have 2 dealers in Calgary and they both are owned by the same person, so they don't really negotiate. I also did a factory order, so they didn't want to give me any deals. What that did do was allow me to scratch off a lot of extras they had shoved on all the lot vehicles. The sunroof for instance was like 2800$

The only thing I got extra was free Audi care, worth about 750$ I guess.

I own a Q5 and TDI A3. Next Q5 for us will be the TDI. Have you considered a diesel Q5?
