Default Audi Q5 Navigation Updates

All:

So far I have come across approximately 7 streets here in Toronto and the GTA that do not exist in my Navigation. Can someone tell me how to go about updating the Navigation software? Is this something the dealer can do only? Are these updates available for download/purchase?

I have looked through some US forums and there seems to be lots of complains there as well.

Thanks.

Apparently there's an update available now in certain countries that should be completed world wide by the fall. Talk has been that it can only be performed by the dealer and it costs over $200. The dealer installs the software and activates your licence. It is apparently a two hour process. Downside is there is no guarantee that the information/streets you are looking for will be updated.

Thanks very much Tony appreciate your response.. I guess I'll wait, it's not a big enough deal to justify such price but it's good to know what the update process is in general.

I think Audi ought to pick up that cost, at least for the first year. It's a little frustrating to buy a car at that price, and then get nickle and dimed for nav updates that are out if date before the car is a year old.

I wonder if Alex can confirm if 2011 Oct deliveries will include this update?

Interestringly enough, one of the Salespeople i worked with gave me the impression the updates would be easily installable.. but now thinking back i do not recall if he mentioned that there would be a cost associated... hmm

I agree that updates to the NAV system maps should be essentially free especially since you have already paid quite a bit for the system itself...

I can't confirm it, however, I'd like to think that my new vehicle would have the latest update.

Having said that, keeping up to date with maps, is like keeping up to date with software/computers, impossible IMO. It's constantly changing.

I don't necessarily believe its that difficult to keep up to date on maps. If the software ie the maps are updated even semi annually, just provide a means (ie new dvd or flash drive) to let the customer update the software themselves.

Microsoft seems to do that without charging for every update, hell i have a home theater receive that provides free updates on a regular basis.

I'm pretty sure that even garmin and tom tom provide free updates for their mobile gps devices that the customer can update for free...

Came accross this site which offers (at a cost) customer installable maps for audi vehicles.

The Q5 does not seem to be on the list although many other including q7 are.

Apparently the maps are updated once per year.

I am not sure if the Q5's Nav system will be of the same type, but hopefully it will appear on a similar site soon.

The whole idea of charging for map updates is insane. Tom tom can "push" updates to your Navigation why can't Audi? It's connected to a Satellite data is exchanged back and forth everything can be pushed. Same way Satellite radio is pushed and traffic information.

Oh well....
