Default 2010 Q5 S Line Ride Comfort?

I posted this on the Audi World forum, and after finding the Canadian forum I see there are a few members with 2010 S Lines, so thought I would post this here as well...

I am new to the Audi family and have just placed my order for a 2010 Q5 S Line with the Premium, Teck Pkg, Drive Select etc... My big question and one the dealer could not adequately describe is does the S Line with Audi Drive Select have a rough ride or can it be customized via Select Drive to ride more like the regular Premium Q5 (Non S-Line)? I don't want to "hack" any codes, just use the factory equipment.

While I do enjoy a stiff ride at times, I drive a lot of long distance and a constant stiff ride can get exhausting after 12+ hours behind the wheel.

So to anyone who has the S-Line, how does it ride in comparison to the non-S Line and to those with the S-Line with Drive Select, does the comfort mode soften the ride any and if so does it closely mirror the non S Line?

Thanks in advance.

Audi Drive Select is your friend!

Drive Select will give you all of the options you want. You can have a fairly plush ride in the Comfort setting, make the car turn corners on a dime in the Dynamic setting or choose your own set up with the Individual setting.

I've been riding on my 18" winter wheel setup for the last few weeks and I've barely noticed a difference coming from the 20" summer wheels. I remember reading about a lot of concern about the ride of the 20" wheels from the girls on AW as well, but there's nothing to be worried about.

You're going to love the new ride!

Thanks Tony!

After seeing your Q and reading your comments on the quality of the ride even with the S Line wheels, I will be keeping my S Line package. Been sitting on the fence about this and am glad to finally have some better info to help with the decision!

Seeing the difference with the S Line package totally changes things. I remember liking the the look of the Q5 that I test drove last February, but the S Line pictures in the brochure were much better. Once it arrived I was extremely happy I bought that package. In fact, it had so much of an effect on the sales manager, he sold the non-S Line he ordered for himself and changed his incoming orders to S Line.

You're probably already aware, but your Q5 won't be coming with the same 20" wheels as mine. Audi only ran those wheels on the 2009 models. It makes no sense to me as it was a new wheel design that they used on one model that you could only get in the S Line package for one year. Not to mention that it's a totally gorgeous wheel!

If you haven't already seen them, the equally nice 20" wheels on your Q5 will be the same as the ones in these pictures:

I never did understand why they switched the wheels after such a short time out. But then again this is my first time seriously examining a new car or for that matter a new manufacturer in 5 years so I had assumed it was an Audi thing that they just did from time to time.

Your wheels look killer, and for that matter I quite like the S Line wheels on many of the models so all is well! The winter rims you have are the way to go, going to have to pick up a set in 2010 when mine is due for snow throwers.

Yeah, I really didn't understand that one either. Although when they find a wheel they like, the tend to put it on everything if it gets a positive reaction. The seven split-spoke design that was released on the RS4 has made it's way from the A3 and A4 all the way through to the Q5 in some countries. The 2010 Q5 S Line 20" five tri-spoke wheel was introduced on the RS6 in Europe and is now an available wheel on just about every Audi model available. As much as I like that wheel design, I'm coveting mine even more now that they are so rare.

Just a heads-up, if you are in love with my winter wheels you may want to buy a set sooner than later. They are a discontinued style (OZ Hydra) that I picked up from the Tire Rack that are on closeout at 20% off.
