Water-air intercooler? anyone tried this?

Water-air intercooler? anyone tried this?
I'm planning some major engine maintenance and some minor upgrades while i'm in there, and so i'm mulling over the possibilities for an improved intercooler. From what i read, the most common typical setup is a front mount intercooler behind/below the bumper, but i also read a lot about doing a water-air setup and some advantages that purportedly has, so I'm leaning more towards that at the moment. Or i may do both in series, since the water intercooler is small and adds negligible pressure drop.
I'd love to hear from those that have installed aftermarket intercoolers, what your setup is and how satisfied you are with it, and anything you'd do different if you did it over. If anyone has tried a water-air setup, i'd really love to hear about it.
On the stock intercooler, does anyone know what pressure drop is has worst case (WOT) and its typical cooling efficiency? It looks undersized, but i'd like to have some quantitative numbers to justify the upgrade.
