Default Intake questions

K i'm looking for my next upgrade, it was between an intake and DV's since one is faulty. i'm just going to replace with stock and get an intake. NOW my main concern is that.
On the top of my airbox, there are sensors, i'm not sure if they are just there or tied into the inner workings of the airbox. Where do these go? Am i going to set off sensors by installing an intake? do i need to reset fault codes?
On a kit, i'm looking at the K&N Induction kit, im not aware of any sort of remounting, or anything. I'm also not sure if the american intake S4 and canadian are the same. are they?
If you have installed an intake on your 00-01 S4 please Help!
Reccomendations for intake kit's would be appriciated too. LLTek has one and K&N has one, but it might just be a cone adapter.

The two electronic components on top of the stock airbox are ignition modules, one for each bank of cylinders. The modules need to be cooled so Audi thermally pasted and heat sinked them on top of the intake box which is the coolest part of the engine bay. Caution on relocating the ignition modules as inadequate cooling will cause them to fail prematurely.

Audi intentionally keeps the hot engine bay air out of the intake with shrouding and ducting. Lower IATs directly translates to more power. To keep the Intake Air Temp low as intended, one of the worst approaches is to remove the box and install an "exposed to the hot engine bay" intake (esp on a 2.7T due to close proximity to very hot pass turbo).

Another caution is heavily oiled aftermarket air filters as excess filter oil can mist onto the MAF sensor and slowly alter air flow readings, eventually car runs like crap. Some report K&N Filters are prone to this, esp if owner re-oils the air filter with too much fluid.

Most would not recommend to open up a 2.7T street car intake like this:

There is a stock box intake mod known as the Darintake. Some folks running a full StageIII 2.7T use the Darintake with great success because they retain the OE airbox housing and the box mod allows for more air flow. IIRC, AWE recommended Darintake with StageIII. Even the Euro B5 RS4 uses same style S4 intake box, exception being an extra flap opens to allow more airflow under WOT. This is the roots of S4 Darintake mod.

Some use the stock style filter, some use a cone, both flow well:

Note that Audi designed the OE intake to flow well for a stock or mildly chipped 2.7T and with this setup, there is no need to modify airbox as performance will not change. More airflow is needed if you install K04s or other aftermarket Turbo's and chips, or K03's sustaining boost over 15PSI (which is not recommended due to increased risk of premature turbo failure).

If you have VAG-COM, measure your MAF flows and IAT's on similar weather days before and after the mod to measure exactly how the mod changed your 2.7T intake performance.

thats some pretty good info... I didn't think the K&N oil would affect the MAFs
