Question Audi A4 Exhaust?

I have a 2001 Audi A4 1.8T, my exhaust is broken so I am getting a new one, I talked to a mech and I'm not sure what to do he wasnt to sure himself but I am looking into getting a new performance exhaust done, He suggested to fix the stock instead of doing performance because I might lose power with a performance exhaust. I am confused with what to do, my current stock exhaust broke right after the flex pipe and I already notice a lost in power. I want more acceleration and power what should I do?

Hello fellow 306er..
I'm in the market for exhaust for my 2000 1.8T too and it has been a definite learning experience to say the least. You shouldn't lose power by doing an aftermarket system. From what I've learnt you should gain 10-20% in HP if it's done right. There are loads of options.
Test pipe to remove the cat but then you might have issues with CEL
Downpipe and full off road system. We don't have the emission testing in sask that some of the other provinces have so I wouldn't worry too much about the off road part.
Personally I think I'm gonna go with a cat back system from germanautoparts.com.
You have more options if you have a manual trans though.. I have the auto with tiptronic so there's not as much room under there for most systems. The one I'm lookin at is pretty much a grand, give or take. Personally I wouldn't mess with removing the cat or messing with sensors then adding sensor non foulers but someone here that's more knowledgable may tell you different.
If you want to do it the 'economical' way take it to a good muffler shop and have them patch it up with a new flex pipe. I spent $75 on a universal flex pipe the same week I bought my car and I still regret not doing the full 2.5" or 3" system then.
I hope the audi veterans in the crowd will correct me where I'm wrong and add their knowledge cause I'll be watching and learning from the info given.
Hope my rambling helped ya in someway.
