APR VS Unitronic

Re: APR VS Unitronic
Assuming the software for all the companies are on a somewhat level playing field meaning they all have the proper maps and can read and write to the ecu with no bugs it all comes down to the tuner. Does he or she have knowledge of the engine they are tuning? I have seen Mitsubishi tuners tune a Mitsu almost perfect but get them on an Honda or Audi and this go sideways. Engine basics are what they are but every differences that only an good tuner will know of.
Just my thoughts.

Re: APR VS Unitronic
What would make me go with APR instead of Uni(I have stage 1 on my passat) is the level of switchability between different programs. stock, 91, 93, 100 etc and depending on the mods already done to your car. Where with UNitronic you get stage 1, you have stage 1 and that's it. You want to put it back to stock because you're experiencing some problems with your engine, well you have to pay another 100$ to get it back to stock, which its sad IMO. I would love that UNitronic offers a bit more tuneability in their products since their local.

Re: APR VS Unitronic
APR are coming with an Iphone/android App which will give us a control on which program we want to use faster/easier than the ''cruise control'' trick.
If it's true I will without a doubt buy an APR flash next time..

The weather was not ideal for the Unitronic dyno. While it is weather corrected, the air was not dry and crisp, and it was only peaking at 16psi, where you can see it was hitting 18-19 in mid 30’s dry air. Either way, Unitronic made more power, and the AFR’s were safer than APR’s file was. Unitronic did make less torque, but it’s more linear, not the crazy spike that the APR Stg 2 had. Yes, it was fun, but then it’d really drop off past 5,000 rpm where the Unitronic keeps pulling.
Other miscellaneous notes and testimonials:
Overall, I’m happy I have Unitronic now. I have run 100 octane on two occasions now. I was skeptical about it actually adapting at first, but it really does adjust for 100 octane. I like the fact that I don’t have to buy a specific program in order to run a different fuel. Everyone is different, but I honestly didn’t use stock mode that often at all, so not having that doesn’t bother me either. Another thing worth mentioning is the cost to upgrade to K04 specific software. Unitronic charges less, quite. Having a 7,100 rpm fuel cut is sort of cool too. That extra 100rpm really is weird to have.
To wrap things up, I really enjoy the Unitronic tune. My car pulls harder, can run 100 octane, gets the same mileage as it did with APR, yet feels smoother. I recommend it.
