Default 1.8T Or 2.8 A4

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum. My question is not tuning related but tought that it belong here.

I'm Planning to buy a A4. It will be my daily driver and winter car so it gonna be a Quattro but i was wondering which one would you take.

It would be a 2.8 after 97.5 for the V6 190Hp or a 1.8t before 2001 because it will be my winter car and i don't want to pay more than 10000Bucks taxes includes.

Which is Better?? Don't want to do extensives tuning on it coz i already got an
S2000

thx for the infos

well the 1.8t with about $2-3g's of mods and chips etc will feel and be a lot faster than your s2000... for reliability go with the V6. Personally I would go with the 1.8T but if you are not going to mod it do the v6

^ YUP!!!! Sell the rice rocket S2000 for a hell of a budget on upgradable parts for the 1.8t you can easily be pushing 400-500HP with a budget like that. Oh and get quattro thats a no brainer I hope

Hey Thrice,

Great idea in getting an Audi. I'm sure you will love either engine in the A4.

If you're serious about NOT modding, I personally think the 2.8 is the way to go. It's a great engine with plenty of power and instant throttle response.

The 1.8T is the preferred engine in the A4, mostly because of all of the available mods out there. That being said, you may find more 1.8T's out there with issues.

I'm personally done with engine mods. I am just getting out of a 1.8T TT and into a 3.2. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I want instant power without the need (or temptation of) aftermarket mods.

Either way, good luck and enjoy your next car!

: ) or i don't buy an audi and put my S2000 turbo but thats not in my plan either.

I'm still not decided. Do you guys have trouble with your audi?, German car tend to have problems... "don't want to insult you : ) " . I'm working in a Body shop and we see many electrical problem. And i won't talk about my last car BMW z3.(check engine, power windows motor,Electrical roof, even the damn trasmission.) I really don't miss it.

Now that is insulting... comparing a BMW to an AUDI!
I will attempt to explain the difference to you: in order to drive a BMW, a person must have a certain personality handicap... as for those who drive AUDIs: well! is like the Queen is you next-door-neighbour... it implies refinement and good taste!

Joke/sarcasm/rivalry aside: these are extremely electronically reliant vehicles, and while it is known that electronic devices would be more reliable than their mechanical counterparts, when electronics meet mechanical stuff, there are points of failure, and you would have some problems such as the ones you had with your Z3.

I hope you will get and AUDI though: you will love it!

"German cars tend to have problems" is something I would expect to hear out of the mouth of lifetime domestic driving senior citizen who has never been in or driven a German car. I've had three different Audi's since 1986 in two different generations of Quattro AWD and I bought none of them new. All have been very reliable.

My last three "summer" cars previous to owning the TT were all Mazda MX-5's. I have great appreciation for Japanese made sports cars as well. I wanted a summer sports car that wouldn't have to sit in the garage all winter so I went to the TT.

Hands down THE BEST car I have driven in a Regina winter was my TT with a good set of winter tires. Currently my other car is a Volvo XC90 and it might have made it out of the garage three times this winter. (When I needed more cargo space.)

You get yourself into something with Quattro AWD and you WILL be happy!

BMW isn't German anyhow, if that's what you were inferring.

Not to insult you or anything...but does it look like putting stickers on your car adds HP? Because most of the people driving hondas, acuras etc... tend to have a big handicap....jokes aside...

German cars are great had an A4 with 397 000km's on it and said I would drive it till it dies at 280 000km's and it wouldnt die ended up selling it for $7000 had all service records well maintained... ran into the guy a few days ago he said that the car is currently at 456000km's with no issues so how is the hondas out there? I have also heard that they are great little cars and are built well my fiance drives one and they are good ran into some issues but enerally good... most I have seen on a honda is 260k km's My old A4 has pretty much doubled that milage yes I know 260 x 2 = 520 but I will guarantee that it will pretty much outlast anything. Oh and no Rust! 1996 A4
