Thumbs down Help Needed Pls!

i just got myself an audi its model 90 and year is 1993 not the quatro it front wheel only got it cheap and i did not waste time checking it out b4 buyin so i ended up spending $600 within 48 hours and i still have tons of pending expenses to go my questions are when driving all works well untill around 100km/hour when you depress accelarator further the gear shifts to 3 and wont go back to no other unless you turn car of and start again a mechanic suggested it might be due to my engine mount broken bushings causing this i personally thinks it my transmission however when i depress gas pedal gently all works fine except that its always shaky shifting from 3 to 4 and when downshifting, you feel it almost all the way from 4to3to2 etc upshifting smooth till 3 any ideas would since i would like to dish the car if it is a fulty transmission i payed $800 for it it is in great shape with 154000kms on it

I'm thinking that if you're cruising at 100 km/h, then you should already be in 4th unless you are accelerating hard and trying to shift at the redline in each gear. Frankly, your mechanic may be correct but somehow, I can't understand how broken mounts can translate to an auto box's inability to shift.

yes at 100 am in the fourth however with automatic trani, when you push pedal to the floor kinda the car moves to i think 3rd briefly and switches back to 4th all my cars does that.i would also want to know where the temp. indicator have to be when the car fully warmed up since mine seem to wonder from 50 starting point stays on 90 most of the time then when in traffic heats up to 100 or a little beyond when i drive 120kms/hour for a while it goes low to 50 am thinkin thermostat any other ideas? my mechanic says thermostat is behind timing belt and asking $250 for the labour and suggested buying all new belts water pump etc before proceeding

I think your temp indication may actually be okay. In stop and go traffic in the summer, my temp goes to 100 and then the fan kicks in and brings it down to 90. In winter, I sometuimes have to put cardboard in front of half the rad so that it at least runs somewhat warm. I've been through three sets of T-stats and there was no difference. Other I5 owners have experienced the same thing. Having said that, if your's is a V6 and not an I5 then this condition may not be normal.

As for your mechanic, I suggest you get a second opinion.
