Default A5 Pricing (What a joke)

Are these Canadian prices for real? We are getting charged the same price for an A5 as the Americans are being charged for their S5. Audi suggests that we have more standard features, but I haven't seen any benefits on the website. In fact, the American packages are way better. For example, they can separately order the 19 inch wheels for $900. We can't get them unless we order the $4000 s-line package. What a joke!! Canadians once again get no respect. How can we not look into buying in the states. Used ones are already starting to pop up.

Yeah, I joined this forum to see if anyone had imported one yet. The price for an A5 in Canada is much higher than the US PLUS you can't freakin' get one. The dealer here in Calgary told me when I last asked (about 6-8 weeks ago) that if I ordered one that day I'd get one in November. Like mritalia said, a quick search in the US shows quite a few used ones and for a significant savings too. The only catch might be Canadianizing it. Anybody have any news on that? I have no problem buying Canadian but don't like getting screwed for it.

I'm also interested in an '08 TT but don't get me started on that one! The price difference between the USA and Canada is crazy. Lots of used ones available in US too.

Yes, the pricing is outrageous.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has bought in the states. I am seriously considering it. The response from Audi Canada when I emailed them after they announced pricing was nothing short of insulting to the intelligence.

Franz,

I'm curious, what was Audi Canada's rationale? (or bs?)

JAC - here's the response to my initial email asking about the disparity of US and Cdn pricing:

Thank you for contacting Audi Canada.

The prices for Audi vehicles in Canada are defined by Audi Canada and Audi AG (Germany). They are set in relation to the prices of our key competitors in each respective segment in the Canadian market. Also factors such as standard equipment differences and different crash standards might play a role in price setting. Exchange rate movements in certain currencies can also play a role in temporary price discrepancies between certain countries. The price of an Audi vehicle is purely based on the competitive situation of the Canadian market and not a translation of US or European pricing.

Nevertheless, we recently announced a revision of the MSRP of many of our vehicles. This change has been published in newspaper advertisements and is now in force at our dealerships; please see your dealer for details.

The A4 was not forgotten: Audi began addressing the currency situation with the 2008 model year when it introduced a limited amount of A4 Special Edition which included over $3,000 worth of additional features. This successful vehicle has now been added to the regular offer program.

Again, thank you for your feedback and for writing to Audi Canada.

AudiTalk
I replied that this sniffs of collusion. They told me the message would be forwarded to someone and I never heard back again.

Franz

JAC, join the Calgary Audi Club, there is a few people that imported from the US and you cna talk to them about their experiance next meet is tomorrow, Thursday June 19th! The pricing is BS although when I bought my car I found the pricing to be fairly equal with a total savings of $1000 which was not worth my time going down. But now the price difference is insane! I looked at an S4 here selling at like $45000 - 50 000, for a a used 2005-2007 etc. down there you can get them for 30 000$ and that to me is mind boggeling. In all reality if you buy a car here its pretty much kicking your self in the nuts. Our economy is very strong and what we are doing is just evening ours out with US and keeping theirs high. But how can you not???

Also a brand new RS4 here is $109 000 US sells the same thing anywhere from $70 000- 75 000 and the modification is $3000 -$5000 and most of the import fees are included in the price above. Right now a used RS4 2007, is selling in the high 50's and here mid-high 80's!!!

B.S. by Audi Canada, and also wtf is up with not being able to import some models? I know people that have gotten the B6 S4's accross the boarder all dandy and fine and now they are inadmissable???? So they were good to come through at one point but not now? How has the car changed/ ultered? I guess our government wont make enough money then in taxes if they admit those vehicles!! Even an RS6 there is less then a 100 in Canada because they are impossible to get and the price for a used 2003 RS6 is above 50G's

Canadian pricing SUCKS!!!! and so does Audi of Canada and the BS politics

importation is the biggest joke of all... safety features are retarded when you can bring in a 2000 oldsmobile no problem, but you have so called "safety" issues when you try to bring in a car that has 4 times the safety features and way better crash ratings...
