Default 2001 Allroad - daytime running lights via VAG-COM?

Does anyone know if the 2001 Allroad (2.7T) has a VAG-COM code (country code for Canada, perhaps?) that will turn Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) on or off? Thanks...

Nope. Won't work. You have to set it up manually. The easiest thing to do is run the fogs as DRL. Leave the Xenon's alone. Way more money and time to set it up. I wrote up a step by step actually. Let me know if you want that and I'll send it to you.

Absolutely! Would greatly appreciate the info!

I actually just got back with it yesterday & had a great time with it - a very nice upgrade from our '98 A6 Quattro Wagon, although our daughter will miss the 3rd-row (rear-facing) seat in the back.

I still need VAG-COM to pull the codes for the Air Bag light and (on the way home!) the Check Engine light. Hopefully it's just an oxygen sensor on the Check Engine light, eh? I have the cable and (shareware) software, just waiting for my Bentley-like disc to arrive to know what to do from there, having never pulled or set codes before.

I obviously had hoped that changing the country field to 'Canada' would automatically set the DRLs, but at least it'll change the odometer to kilometers instead of miles... (right?)

thanks - send that wonderful-sounding info to barto@nerdshack.com when you get a chance... much appreciated!

You can actually still install the rear facing seat in too! The Allroad has one. I'm not sure sure if the '98 A6 version is compatible. You just have to check.

Check Engine can be handful of things, and not always critical. It may be your secondary Air Pump. VAG should pull up the info. Air bags could also light up when it's attempting to adjust it's height. It happened to me once and quickly went way.

Stay tuned. I'm sending you the DRL info now. I guess this is a US import?

Good tip on checking to see if the '98 A6 3rd-row seat will work in the Allroad... I hadn't even thought of that. Of course, our daughter's getting a little big for it by now so it might become a moot point, but might still be worth checking into.

This is indeed a U.S. import, which is why I need to get DRLs (and the child tether anchor thing) done to pass the federal inspection.

I haven't actually "pulled codes" before, so feel free to point me to a "VAG-COM for newbies" site if you know of one. I'm not much of an automotive (under the hood) guy, but am very comfortable with computers.

The air bag light staying on was known and disclosed by the previous owners, and has come on every time, so I don't expect it to go away on its own, unfortunately.

Is it a good idea, though, to pull the various codes (check engine, airbag), then clear them and see if it happens again? Or is it not wise to just clear the codes without actually doing something to fix right away?

(see, told you I'm a N00B!)

Thanks!

That would entirely depend on those codes. I'd start by pulling them and saving the log. Don't clear them right away. Check the errors back to back and determine the best course of action. The main thing is that you have the log in hand and there's something to go on. The airbags are known to leak; that's not uncommon.

Ross-Tech has the codes posted so that's a good start. Audiworld also has a whole section just for VAG so I'd definitely look there too. I'm not an expert in it either but I do use it.

I may be stating the obvious, but peek in the back and see if UAS is installed in the rear seats (two dots on each back rest of the rear seats). That would cover the tether issue wouldn't it? I haven't looked at a 2001 in a while so I can't recall if it's there.

Good - thanks for the tips. So if the airbag leaks, then it needs to be replaced...?

Hmmm...I thought I had looked on Audiworld, but must have missed that. Will check it out for sure.

Hey, please state as much 'obvious' stuff as possible... while I've owned an Audi (or two, or three) since 1988 - starting with my recently-sold '86 CGT, non-Quattro - I don't know much about the maintenance side of things, and this Allroad is now the newest Audi of all, so it's all new to me. Obviously *some* similarities with our '98 A6 Avant, but it seems quite different overall.

All suggestions are welcome, so don't hesitate to offer super-obvious advice!

Thanks again... will try to stop by a Radio Shack (now The Source-Circuit City in Canada mostly) and look for those fuse taps for the DRL mod...and did I keep any blown fuses somewhere?

No luck finding anything resembling child-tether-anchors... but I looked at our '98 A6 Wagon and couldn't see anything there, either...not sure what it's supposed to look like when it's done! But the Wagon did pass the federal inspection, so Canadian Tire thought they were there...

The Source guy said he didn't have the fuse splitter thing, but I eventually found it at Canadian Tire. Haven't done the mod yet - still have to scare up a dead fuse!

wish me luck... also have to find the right USB to serial driver so I can use my cheapie eBay cable with VAG-COM to check things out. <sigh>

I suspect you'll have no trouble. It's really easy. Just follow the instructions and take your time.

On a side note - those cheap VAG cables are flaky at best. Be forewarned. You'll get mixed results.

Default Child tether anchors?

Maybe I should start a new thread on this, but I was looking for the child tether anchor on my '98 A6 Avant, and all I could find were some plastic clips on either side behind the middle seat. Similar-looking clips in my '97 A4 are on the back deck behind the seats. Is that what I'm wanting on the Allroad, then? This U.S. model doesn't seem to have them, and I'll obviously need that mod also for the RIV inspection. Just wondering if a shop asks me where they should go, where should I say to mount them? Anyone have pics of what theirs look like?
Thanks!
