New owner 2014 Q5 TDI
Hi All,
We just picked up our 2014 Q5 TDI two days ago, our first new car in 16 years. My how things have changed. The dependency on computers and electronics is breathtaking. The owners manual was so thick I asked the salesman whether half of it was in French. He said no. Ha-ha. Lot's to learn. Our other eye-opener was how much the dealership tries to sell you on after-sales items and services. We rejected most of them as they added up to thousands of additional dollars. He (the salesman) told us that 95% of the people took these additional services. I can believe it after the scare they try and put you through, but we didn't bite at them except for Audi Care. I was still peeved at the $350 charge for something called a "documentation fee". I was so mad that my wife said I made the salesman's hands shake during the negotiation, he was so afraid we were going to leave (and I would have if they weren't willing to negotiate any better for an all cash offer). My goal was to get the price below the threshold where the luxury car surtax kicks in, which I did. In the end we were happy with our purchase. Now I'm in the process of finding ways to get around Audi's dealer pricing, which is why I am here.
Cheers,
Bill
