New to this foreign car!
Hey, I'm the new guy from Calgary and I am kind of a gear head. I've been a chrysler tech, and gm tech. I raced my nitrous fed Mustang on the weekends (before it was rearended last summer), and I've owned an array of domestic vehicles but not really an import ( I've always wanted one ).. anyways enough about me... My wife and I are currently about to buy a 1996 b5 awd a4 v6 for her! So im taking her srt4 off her hands. I would greatly appreciate some knowledge pertaining to this car. I've checked out, and read up on the audi forums about this model, but I just have a couple questions before I seal the deal on it!
- It has 260000km, how many kms have they been know to last?
- Can i pull codes with a normal obd2 reader?
- It needs a timing belt soon, so how much are parts? need rare special tools? how long does it take?
- What gas milage can she expect for the 2.8 5spd?
-Any proven mods to increase mpg?
-Where can a guy find the TSB's for this car?
Thanks!

Re: New to this foreign car!
-They can last a long time if maintenance has been kept up to date
-you can use a normal obd2 reader, then just cross reference the codes on the net
-TB parts with special tool included will run you about 350-400
-expect about 13L/100km in city, 10L/100k highway
-cant hurt to open up the exhaust for some better breathing
-not sure where the TSB's are located, I would check audi of america site

You can get parts at Montgomery Auto, Calgary Auto works, Concept One, Tunerworks, I can get you in touch with any performance parts you need from VAST performance

Re: New to this foreign car!
Ok thanks for the help. The car will be my wife's year round DD, so I will only be looking to improve the mpg, and keeping the car on the road for her and no so much into making it quick. Are the 12v 2.8's ok for reliability? I sure like the sound of them more so than the 30v's.

Re: New to this foreign car!
Well, I now officially own an audi! drove it home and it lost all the power steering fluid? It has great road manners and easy to drive though. I couldnt find the fuel door release button after searching high and low, so i called the seller and felt like a noob after she told me how its done.. is the button on the key for keyless entry? my battery must be dead?
