Going for broke
Hey all,
I think it is time for another ride, I've done pretty much what can be done with the other car so I think it is time to expand the fleet. Currently I have a VR6 Corrado but I am limited by time by what I can do with it as it is my only ride and everyone knows that only losers ride public transportation. So I thought that I would find something that is bigger and better but I didn't want another FWD car, one is enough. I always thought the perfect car would hold at least 1 AWD car, 1 FWD car, and 1 RWD car so in comes the Audi. I've done a lot of things over long weekends such as upgrading to OBD-II and 4 channel ABS but I'm at the point where I need down-time with Corrado to make the fun stuff happen.
So here's the plan, after reading a number of forums and not really wanting anything other than a B5 platform car I decided to get a 1.8T Quattro. I've also noted that the 1997 - 1999 AEB - 1.8T's can make the most power & have the better parts of the different motors used in the 1.8T so that is the direction I am going. Although I am buying this car to make the other car better I know myself well enough to know that I will also want to make this car better as well so I may as well get one with the most potential. It must be a manual, a tiptronic is just another word for an automatic and I can easily live without one of those. I don't know what it is, there is just something about a manual that does something for me.
It has to be a 1.8T as well, that is an incredible motor and if I ever did an engine swap in the Corrado it would have been for a 1.8T. To me cars are just like some peoples hobbies, I find it relaxing to just play with them and make them better. I worked as a partsman for VW/Audi eons ago and first got my appreciation for them at that time and it has never left. I don't like other people defiling my car by touching it so I also do all of the work on the car no matter what it is. I like to think imagination goes a long way, I have rebuilt transmissions, engine, changed wheel bearings, swapped electrical, and I have never touched an air tool to my car to date. I don't have a press or any of these fancy tools people think you need to properly work on a car and had the car at speeds far above legal without a worry.
First thing first, I must first find a car to buy then take it apart to fix what is probably worn. Once I think it is safe and all of the maintenance is done it will be time to take the Corrado and do fun things to it. We shall see what I can find that I think is worth buying (it took me over 6 months to find my Corrado and I had to go 1,000 kms to get it) and then the fun shall begin. New car, new problem, new special tools, and new headaches, should be fun.
