Default A4 introduction

Hi to All in the Forum,

First of all, just to introduce myself, i have owned 2 Audis over the past 10 years and have owned 8 Porsches, currently still own the "Last of the Air-cooled 991s, the wide-body 993 C2S"

I love our Audi, but just had a major mechanical breakdown, which I will discuss on another topic.

I am still corresponding with Audi Canada and the local (Calgary) Audi dealer, stay tuned!

Cheers from snowy Calgary, "please let the bad-sledding begin!"

Bert

Hey Bert, welcome aboard. When you get a chance post up images of your garage. Love the 993.

Hello again to all Forum members!

I wanted to introduce all of you to my A4 mechanical trouble...

On our way to the US last January, driving the 2006 Avant (mileage 59K Miles), I noticed that the engine kind of "bogged down" going up an incline. I thought I had picked up a batch of bad gas, and had somehow plugged a fuel filter, consequently the "Check Engine light" came on... hmmm! "must get that checked", I mused. But being in northern Montana, amidst the cowboys and cattle, there really are not too many Audi dealers, eh!

The "Engine Check Light" kept re-appearing , then on a two-lane highway in Arizona, I was passing about 3 cars, when all of a sudden, again, the engine stalled, forcing me to budge back into the right lane, somebody is probably still talking about this crazy Canuck!

To the Audi dealer I went in Palm Springs, with my tale of woe. A while later I had a phone call from the dealer: "you have a damaged Camshaft and a malfunctioning High-pressure fuel pump, cost to repair $ 2,600 US."

Here's a couple of questions to others on this forum:

Is this a fairly common problem? If so, how have these problems been addressed by your Audi Dealer?

Secondly, why is the High-pressure fuel pump on an Audi made by Hitachi, clearly stamped on the case? This is a mechanical pump, that is activated via a special lobe on the end of the Camshaft, which activates a rod into the fuel pump. Both this Cam and the end of the Fuel pump shaft showed significant wear, obviously damaged over a long period of time! I brought the damaged parts back from the US.

Please let me know if anyone else have had this mechanical failure, and what was one about it? The Audi manual indicates "no warranty" on the High pressure fuel pump ( no wonder, it is not made by Audi!), whereas the Turbo is covered for 7 years!!!!

Any helpful comments are welcome!

Our family owns 3 Audis...

Cheers to all!
