Default Reset TPMS

I mounted a second set of original TT rims with summer tires onto my car (2008 TT) today. I drove for about 10 km. before the TPMS alarm sounded.

How do I reset the TPMS to read the new tire sensors? I have looked in the manual, and on this forum for this topic - couldn't find it.

I tried the pushing the tire reset button, it would only temporarily stop the alarm. The alarm sounds for almost a minute, then goes off while the warning light and message remains.

I just changed from my winters to the summers and set the TPMS using the Wheel Change option on the computer. You might have a faulty TPMS sensor that is causing the constant fault.

Might sound silly, but are you positive the second set of original TT rims with summer tires that you just mounted has TPMS sensors installed? If so re-check your tire pressures. I swore my tires were all at pressure the last time I got a TPMS warning, but they were not. (33PSI for the front and 29PSI for the rear.) Then press and hold the TPMS button for about 5 seconds. If the TPMS alert returns again, as Mike suggested, you likely have a bad sensor.

I have no idea whether the new wheels have TPMS sensors, I can only assume as they came off an Audi TT 2008 same as mine, and the warning signal did not sound until I drove for about 10K (15 mins. later) and turned a corner. I cannot access any TPMS reset on the cars driver computer menu?

I guess I need to take it in to Independent Tuning for a check? Darn it I was so pleased with my deal on these wheels/tires.

Have a look at the valve stem. If it's just a standard rubber valve then there are no TPMS sensors installed. If the wheels have a metal valve like the ones in the pictures then you do have TPMS sensors.

The sensors are reset to the system in your car when you press and hold the TPMS button for about 5 seconds.

Thanks for the input, that is it the stems are rubber, so the wheels came without TPMS sensors. Now I need to get my hands on a set and get them installed. No savings this year on the mounting.

The TPMS sensor you see in the picture on top of a box came from tirerack.com. They were USD $55 each at the time and are the same ones used by VW/Audi.

Unless you are desperate to have the TPMS function working on your car (most enthusiasts tend to think it's more trouble than it's worth) you can just have an independent shop or anyone with experience with a VAG-COM tool disable the TPMS feature for you.

Thanks, they are still listed at Tire Rack, now $49 each, plus plus lands them about $250 for the set. Not a bad price, and I am pleased that they are the same as original.

I think I will have the TPMS dis-abled until I do my next tire change (replace the summers). The purpose of the purchase was to DIY mount and dismount while saving about $80 (twice a year).

I need to get them balanced, so the dis-able will take place at the same time.

thanks for the information,

No worries. Good luck and enjoy the car and the new wheels. Feel free to post pics when you have time!

P.S. Your landed price from tirerack.com is about half of the dealer price.

Can someone supply the code to dis-able TPMS? Is it different for each model? (2008 TT - FSI 2.0 coupe)

I made an appointment with Mark at Independent for balancing and to disable, he says he hasn't done that before?
