So, still looking at getting a used TT. When I find "the one" it will likely have +/- 100,000 kms on it at purchase. I know about the timing belt thing.....

It will be a quattro with the manual tranny, hopefully be the 225...., and be a coupe. It will be a daily driver. It will see >30,000 kms per year, and be kept for at least 4 years (you know...if I like it, that is..... ; ...).

So, 4 years down the road, it'll have 250,000 ish on it.

I know it's a "higher end" car. I'm going to try to not let it turn into a "rat car", but, it's not like I want to spend $5,000 a year to maintain it.

I know there's no definitive answers to this, or any way to accurately predict the future.....but does anyone here have that kind of mileage on a TT?

Or on a model with the 1.8T engine?

Besides tires, brakes, what else is gonna need replacing once in a while?

just trying to go thru the due diligence.....

I don't think you would have to worry about the engine, the 1.8T has a good reputation for durability as long as you do the timing belt. My previous Jetta 1.8T had 180,000km's on it when I traded it in, most of those miles being chipped so running higher boost levels. It always ran like the day I got it, and did not burn oil or anything like that, very solid motor in my experience.
I do think the TT will be a bit more to keep maintained then traditional front drivers, due to Haldex oil changes every 30,000km's, things like that. Older TT's in my research seemed prone to niggling electrical issues like bad instrument clusters, door position sensors, window regulators, turn signals relays, stuff like that. I've had my TT for 2 years and have experienced the turn signal issue and a faulty temperature guage sensor. Overall it's been reliable for me as a daily driver.

Mine's a 2003 TT Coupe Quattro with 180,000km.
I drive around 40k per annum and hope to keep the car another 3 years; therefore exceed 300,000km.
My maintenance over last couple years:
replaced cam chain adjuster seal and valve cover gasket
replaced coolant flange
haldex fluid filter changes
oil changes
replace wiper assembly
replace clock spring (steering angle sensor)
4-wheel laser alignment
replace plugs, coil packs
replace thermostat, flange and coolant
replace tempsender
replace timing belt
cabin/air filters
front and rear pads
Also had "both" issues with turn signals (replace indicator stalk; and then
replace hazard switch).
The above inc various smaller bits have come to around $5000
Oh, and don't forget summer and winter tyres (and winter alloys). More $$$.

Hopefully I won't have to touch the vehicle until well into 2010.
Currently my only issue is the door switch (window does not drop, display does not show door as open and courtesy light does not come on with door open).

I've ordered forge diverter valve and having Revo chip when I go to have final winter service and wheels installed.

In comparison, my lease takeover 2004 Maxima SE that I had for 2 years (bought at 24000 and returned 95000) cost $136 in maintenance!!

I apologize for going off topic, but I have this problem with my 2001 TT coupe. The driver's side window does not drop when the door is open, and the courtesy lights don't come on, on the passenger side the window does drop but the courtesy lights don't come on. Can this be corrected by just replacing the door switches? Is there anything else that could cause this problem? I bought this TT earlier this year and this is the only problem I found with it. It has 89,000 miles on it. A few times the courtesy lights worked when the doors were opened, but only a few times.

What happens on the information display in both scenarios? Does it show a door open image?

Then I suspect it's the door switch.
My drivers side is fine, ie: Courtesy light comes on, displays shows open door and window drops.
Passenger side does not.
I understand that the switch has a plastic cover that breaks easily. I also think it's quite expensive to replace; therefore have just left as is.
Give us an update on what your plan is.

amlaw, one other thing, the courtesy light won't even come on when you turn it on at the switch above the windshield. Again, it worked a couple times but that's it. Could it be that the problem is there at the light/switch itself? The 2 map lights work fine, just not the center light. Where exactly are the door switches located?

The door switches are within the door itself.
The centre light not activating is not related to the fact the door switch is broken. It just happens to be one of the symptoms of the door switch issue (along with the other 2 symptoms).
Could it just be a bulb?
