Importing a '00 to '02 TT from US to Canada
Call me a newbie for stomping all over familiar old ground again, but I just woke up to the fact that the TT cab with the Baseball Glove Amber Red interior, is one AWESOME mid-life crisis sportscar!
I have some money set aside to get into an '00 to '02 TT Quattro 225HP convertible, but I don't want one with a corroded under carriage from Ontario or Manitoba. Last year my wife bought a Chevy pickup truck in Arizona, and it looks like we will be heading down there again this fall to bring back a TT for me. I have read a lot of forums that talk about modifications to the front bumpers, but no one seems to be able to quote RIV chapter and verse to confirm what year TT's need to be modified, and EXACTLY what needs to be modifued. Also, it seems that the threads were from at least 3 years ago.
Has all that gone away now? Do I need to be afraid that my mid-life crisis dream machine must be forever pushed to the darkened depths of "forget-about-it"? Or is there hope of me driving across the US/Canadian border, receiving all the appropriate paperwork, and then getting registered in Manitoba, without further financial pain and suffering?
What has been your RECENT experience people? Thanx in advance for your help.

I can't say with absolute certainty since I don't know if there are different bumper regulations for different years, but my '02 was exempt from the bumper change. I would contact the RIV directly if you want to be completely sure. It's definitely worth getting a US model - the Canadian bumpers are hideous!

Re: Importing a '00 to '02 TT from US to Canada
Thanx All. I was looking on the Transport Canada and RIV websites today, and it sounds like you are right. Bumper specs from the US were used as the specs for Canada in the summer/fall of 2009. As a direct result of the lobbying from the Canadian car imorting public, the rules were changed in our favour. US bumpers are "good to go" across the border to be imported into Canada.
Thanx again guys.

Just a few notes from importing a 2005 TT (1.8t BEA 225hp) from Montana under a year ago.
Get the dealership (if you go that way) to fill out the required paperwork for the at the boarder. Spend the $100 processing fee they charge its worth it but be on top of them that they get it done and sent out at least 2 days before you plan on being at the boarder.
In Montana you can drive around for 30 days with the temporary registration. Its just a piece of paper they use as a licensee plate and is no good in Canada so make sure you insure the car before hand and have your "in transit" sticker.
This in transit sticker is only good from the boarder to your home address.
Once you get to the boarder we just went to the booth and they will tell u were to go. You will have to pay the GST and will probably search your car in there little garage.
!!!!!Take anything apart before you get to the boarder that you think they will break trying to get off!!!!!! they are not mechanics and they definitely don't care about your car.
They broke the jack cover in the trunk trying to get it off so i recommend you take that off. They wont tell you either if they break something we didn't notice till later.
They will want to know things like if you paid what u say u did (GST Scam) .They will even look online for ads on the car and find one's you couldn't even so have all your paper work in good order.
Once home you will need to get another in transit sticker that is good to and from the inspection.
There is two Inspections that need to be done. Out of country, and out of province. You need daytime running lights (easy to do your self 5 min job) and all recalls dealt with. I don't know how they expect you to get the recalls done when the in transit sticker is technically only good for to and from inspection and Audi doesn't do out of country inspections.
You can find recalls for your car at the audi usa website under service. Take a screen shot of it (if it says you have no recalls) and i cant remember who you email for that but you should know what im talking about when your at this point. You can also go to a dealer and they will print it out for you.
I took it to Canadian Tire (not to many options for out of country)
They literally didn't even look at it so don't be to worried about it.
