Default boost gremlins

Wazup guys.Just took delivery of my 2001 tt 1.8 on friday. The car is in exxelent condition and still standard exept for a k&n cone filter. There is something strange is up with the boost side of things.......It will boost strong from about 2800 rpm all the way to the red line.Change to the next gear, and just like it came it all goes again........no boost at all.You can hear the dump valve working and the turbo boosting cause the car sounds like darth vader............I checked all the hoses for leaks but could find nothing.Any suggestions as to where to start looking........

Will a stock diverter valve set a CEL if the diaphram is leaking? Since it is an internal leak I am guessing not, however boost pressure will be affected...let me know if I`m on the right track. I`m suspecting mine is leaking...just curious before I remove mine to test it.

No, typically the CEL does not come on if it is leaking, my buddy had the same issue as yours on his 1.8T a4, diverted valve was the culprit.

Id try swapping out the diverter valve, they are no to expensive to replace and its the logical starting point once youve confirmed no clamps have come loose to your intercooler piping or anything like that. Just out of curiousity, is your TT APR chipped via AMI motorsports.
Ive had my TT for a bit now, and am thinking of getting this done in the spring as it could use more punch Im thinking. I had Revo on my Jetta and loved it, but since AMI was close, was thinking of going APR.

I had one of these go on my previous Jetta, I started getting cel's and power levels started to flucuate. I've never heard of these fixing themselves, they can be cleaned though. If you look through the 1.8T engine forum on VWvortex you can find a how to. Usually this only delays the inevitable though, I'd replace it.
