Hope this post finds you well...
Haven't been posting much but this is part of my 2010 resolutions, be more active in the community!

I've been an owner of a 1999 Porsche 996 convertible (turbo look added!) for the past 3 years and looking to change my ride. Not obvious since my list of criterias is pretty narrowed down... Needs to be a convertible, winter capable (ideally awd), 4 seats and some power or sporty feel. I did take a look at the e46 M3 but heard it wasn't that good in snow. So my only choice, no complaining here, is the S4 convertible (2005+) which fits all (or almost) of my criterias...
1- Would you have any other recommendation besides the S4?
2- What to look for or expect from an S4???

Hmmmm, many cars??? Not sure I understand!

Price is not a factor... Well, come to think of it, yes it is, but I would say below 40K used... Could go for a C4 but not fully winter driveable... I live in Canada, so we get a lot of snow! Would love to hear from you regarding the other possibilities cause I narrowed it doen to the S4 and no other option with the criterias stated above...

Hello Badbeef, I purchased my 2006 Dolphin Grey S4 this past October. I purchased it from the original owner being a single never been married doctor who spared no expense in maintenance. When he purchased the vehicle new he sent it to Pfaff tuning and had the suspension lowered and stiffened, engine chipped and Staasis exhaust installed. The vehicle had 55K on it and is in show room condition (see photos in photo section). He also included a full set of OZ rims with Pirelli winter tires. As a benchmark I purchased the vehicle for 33K. I find that there is no other vehicle that compares in the winter for driving and handling and as far as performance goes well I think it might just compare or come close to your 996. You know that you will probably pay a premium for a convertable in good to great shape. I believe you are thinking in the right direction and have the right criteria match in an S4. When you do find one please keep in touch as I would love to see it. Good Luck!!

being it a convertable, then it is very hard... LOL...sorry I just read that after I made the list. My bad I guess your choices are narrowed down and pretty limited

Aside from the S4, the only other car that may fit your needs is the BMW 335ix convertible. The S4 looks nicer (In my opinion), but the Bimmer has the retractable hard top which would be nice for an all year round convertible.

So what's the word badbeef...did you find the S4 cabriolet you were looking for? I just put my 04 S4 cab back on the road last weekend...after a 5 month hiatus I'm smiling ear-to-ear. Mine was never winter driven when I picked it up last spring, and with the low mileage (32K) I decided to keep it that way. If you found one let's see some pics! Cheers
