Sports cars vs. F1 cars
this is INSANE
watch the first video for about 2 minutes. Ferraris, Porsche GT3s, GTRs, Caterhams...basically all superfast, superawesome track day super-stars.
Really get a feel for the speed etc.
OK...now that you have watched the street cars for at least 2 minutes...(it's fun...the cars are all great) watch the F1 cars on the same track, same section, same camera view. In fact...the camera on the F1 cars is quite a bit farther back.

OMG!!! first vid was pretty sweet cause you could see the fence move everytime a car went by... and the car on the first at 57seconds in seemed the fastest. then you watch video 2 and holy S**T!!! those are are flying!!!
thanks for the videos Ian

Re: Sports cars vs. F1 cars
If you watch them at the same time you can see that it takes the same amount of time for the track day cars to reach the exit of the first corner as it takes for the F1 cars to enter and leave the entire video frame - that's crazy fast.

Re: Sports cars vs. F1 cars
yeah, I was timing the cars last night.
most regular cars 6-7 seconds in-frame/out-of-frame (i.e. 911 GT3 etc.!)
fast cars 5 seconds
fastest car 4.5 seconds
F1 cars - 2 seconds
Further, their starting point is about 30-40 yards farther back (as you can see the camera in the first vid is much closer to the right hander than the camera in the F1 vid)

Re: Sports cars vs. F1 cars
If the line on the ground in the F1 video is supposed to be the start finish line then I think the F1 camera position is probably even further back than 30-40 yards (check the last 10 seconds of the track cars video to see where the start line is). You can make out 3 full sets of grandstands (and the trees on the hill) on the opposite side of the track in the F1 video, but only 1 grandstand in the tracks cars video (and no tree tops). Makes the F1 cars speed even more impressive!

Re: Sports cars vs. F1 cars
I have been a fan of F1 for years. I remember watching an interview with JV and he was saying that they go flat out and don't let off the gas when going through "Au Rouge". These guys were running about 900+HP and the cars weigh in the 1000LBs range.
They are nuts. I would love to try it though.

Great link!
I love a lot of racing because it's a lot of fun to watch; I love F1 because it is an orchestra of Engineering marvel! I saw some clips of F1 vs. supercar laptimes, and the F1 times were soooo much faster that it made cars like Ferrari look pathetic in comparison (which they are, really).
