Question re: Winter Tire Choices and Reviews

Re: Question re: Winter Tire Choices and Reviews
I mean no disrespect but....
The tires you buy are undoubtedly the best $ you spend. That tiny little bit of rubber that comes in contact with the ground is what keeps you alive - and keep the other guy who you would have hit alive.
Finding no-name tires aren't exactly conducive to the theory above. I understand - everyone to their own, but....
When you buy any set of 4 tires, it's not "that" much more to upgrade to a better tire. It's well known that Michelin will easily outlast Nexan (probably by like 4 winters....)
So in all honesty, I don't have a review of Herculus for you, because I would rather not go to that nice dinner, or not buy that nice suit....but I would rather buy a good set of winter tires....just my 0.02$

Re: Question re: Winter Tire Choices and Reviews
Indeed.. go with something proven. You're driving an audi after all. Michelin, Toyo, Bridgestone.. Why try to save 200$ when it could cause you to end up in a ditch?

Re: Question re: Winter Tire Choices and Reviews
I agree - get 17" for winter, one size narrower than your summer rig. Dunlop Winter Sports are rated # 1, excellent in snow, ice, rain & dry roads, but expensive: Their big benefit is that they behave more like a summer tire when there is no snow. A good deal are the Falken Euro Winters.

Re: Question re: Winter Tire Choices and Reviews
yeah but audi is all wheel drive...so even with the cheapest winters we will out perform any front wheel drive car with good winters!!!!!!
I have Viking snow tech paid under 100 per tire 16 inch 215...& they have been good...they even got a decent review..sure prob not as good as a $200+ tire but for the money & value much better!!!

Sure, you'll outperform on acceleration but AWD won't help you get more traction when you're braking.

Re: Question re: Winter Tire Choices and Reviews
The Dunplor winter sport is a "performance" winter tire. This means that it is not the best ice and snow tires, but it holds the pavement almost as good as summer tires. I live in the north end of the GTA and 90% of my driving is on pavement - one morning a week at most is snow covered. These tires are still very capable in the winter. You'd likely be splitting hairs deciding which tire is better in deep snow, ice, etc... Most winter tires are very squirmy and unpredictable on wet and dry pavement, the dunlops are very linear and rock solid. I am now starting my 3rd season on these tires- 2 of them have no measurable wear, the other 2 are starting to show some signs- still a few more winters left.
