Power steering level almost empty every few days
My A4 power steering level diminishes to almost empty over about 4 to 5 days. I had a friend of a friend check it out for me and he said he believed it was the rack and pinion. The only problem with that opinion is that I'm not having any apparent problems with the steering, except for when my fluid level is quite low. The wheels are turning just fine and most certainly not getting stuck. I'm also not seeing any trace of power steering fluid on the ground when I've had it parked, so it must be leaking while in motion. I have also checked the hoses myself and they have no trace of leaking power steering fluid. Since there seems to be no interference with the rack and my tie rods and they are turning just fine with no noise could it possibly just be the pinion seal? I understand I should be seeing some trace of a leak around the seal or a hose, but there is no trace of leaking fluid. Does anyone have any advice on this problem?

There are fluorescent die kits available for trouble shooting leaks. You put the die in the reservoir and drive the vehicle, then use a black light to highlight any leaks. Check with a parts store and see what they have.
