New Speed Rules in BC

New Speed Rules in BC
New from you friendly nanny government..
In BC if you are caught going more than 40Km over the posted limit, the police have the option of impounding your car, on the spot, for a week. A large fine and impound charges apply. Consider a limit of 80km, getting into the passing lane and zipping around traffic to 120km takes no time at all, just don't get caught, or drive behind a blocker, preferably a BMW or Mercedes.
Good Luck

If you decide to fight the ticket and are found not guilty do they reimburse you all the costs?

Good question, any lawyers out there?
The other thing that gets my goat is that they selectively enforce the traffic laws. Have you ever seen someone getting a ticket for disobeying the signs "Keep Right Except to Pass"?
Or for obscuring the rear license plate & light signals with a stack of bikes? Of following too close? Say if someone is doddling along in the passing lane and a faster car comes up from behind and decides to tailgate: if they are going to enforce the rules both drivers should get nabbed.
Tickets should be given for unsafe and irresponsible driving, not just going a little quicker than the signs say. It is possible to be driving fast and well, and slow but poorly.

That brings up a legal question. If our legal system if founded on the premise that you are innocent until proven guilty, why can they seize your vehicle, make you pay for impound charges, and in essence are saying you are guilty.
If you decide to fight the ticket and are found not guilty do they reimburse you all the costs?

Re: New Speed Rules in BC
It still seems pretty screwed up that you can get impounded, pay a bunch of fees and not actually be convicted of the offense...
I read an article where some guy has a theory that the 50km/h over rule has actually increased the average speed of drivers on the 401. The reason being people now have this upper limit of 50km/h over so they speed anything up to it. Interesting idea. I might be inclined to think he is right, because that's all that goes through my mind when I hit the gas to get around some one, just watch 50 over... Not so much watch not to go over... hehe.

Re: New Speed Rules in BC
I always thought do away with the HOV lanes and make them Autobahn lanes instead. In Germany the Autobahn is one of the safest highways despite the speed.

That is so true it really is one of the safest for the speed. be nice if they made the 407 into the autobahn. hell its owned by a private company somewhere outside of ontario. why not!

Even if they only did one lane on the 407 as the Autobahn lane. Maybe we should start a petition?
