Thumbs up iPhone vs Blackberry

There seems to be a bit of a debate on the Golden Horseshoe Audi thread. That debate is whether the iPhone is better than the BB or visa versa. I prefer the BB however my son who is much younger prefers the iPhone.

So lets do a survey here Blackberry or iPhone?

Post your replies with features and benefits of either and if you wish provide your age group for interest.

im 21 business student. I used blackberry for years when i worked in retail where you actually need one. I used them all starting from 8700 up to the first storm and they were alright for the time. Then i bought my mom an iphone for mothers day, and when i played with it...i converted the next day. I bough them both out with no contract which set me back 1400 $ at the time. Its trully a better device. Apple markets to younger crowed, but dont be fooled it does exchange and all my school/ business documents far better then my blackberry could ever edit them.

And the new OS 6.0 from blackberry is a joke! It is far outdated then any platform i have ever used or seen. Blackberry is going out unless they rewrite the whole OS from scratch (/insert joke here "But to rewrite the whole thing from scratch they first have to invent the universe" /insert joke here)

Anyways blackberry was good, but it became like palm and now provides a true retro experience. RIM is a big company and if palm and microsoft ( this one is a bad example, microsoft is so rich that they could rewrite jeans if they wanted to...its true) could redo their OS for todays world, so should rim to stay in the game.

Blackberrys advantages were that they use compressed data and use less bandwith, which was good for the past, but with todays bandwith, its really is useless.

The BES control is still ahead of competition, but iphone is catching up in that field and does have a lot of features that BES offers.

Blackberry messenger is absolutely useless, its limited to only blackberry users or people who have blackberry connect. Its usable and limited to a single device, which in todays ecosystem is an absolute waste. And when the CEO refereed to it as " one of the biggest social networks" I ROFLed its not a social network, its a messaging service.
I really have no idea what they smoke their in waterloo but it must be some good stuff. After watching the keynote last week, i really didn't know if the CEO is a delusional lair or is suffering early stages of dementia.

I can go on for hours on this, but iPhone is far better then blackberry for both businesses and consumers. Phones are kind of my specialty.

/End rant/

That is probably the best reply to a thread so far. It is full of detail and testimonial from a user of both devices. Just reading your reply convinces me to switch if I could.

Thanks for your input.

You should switch when you can! And the new iphone is coming out very soon with new form factor and everything in case you didn't know. Most providers would give you a break if you had the contract for two years or so, you would pay only a 100 more above the new user's price tag. So if new iphone is advertised for 199 for new 3 year users, if you had your contract for 2 years or so, you can get it for 299. Its worth checking

I have a Bold 9700 and my sister has an iPhone. I like the iPhone better for most things...except typing! I like the tactile feedback of a real keyboard. My sis even has trouble as evidenced by her often barely intelligible texts.

Also, I am on the BES and so iPhone is a no go for now.

Since you have a BB you might want to consider joining our BBM Audi group. Just PM me with your PIN and I will add you.

I work for RIM, so I'm biasd lol.

If you wanna play games and don't have a Nintendo DS, get an iPhone.

If you're in business, get a BlackBerry.

BES is unmatched. If you knew half the capabilities of BES & ran your own company, you wouldn't even consider having an employee use an iPhone.

Advantage of iPhone (complaint I've heard about BBs) is that app developers for Apple, all develop one app that works on all phones. Developers for BlackBerry have to develop like 5 different versions of an app, all to accommodate the different screen sizes, or if it's touch, or if the keyboard is qwerty or SureType or SurePress. So a lot of time they don't bother writing the app for all BlackBerry devices, or in some cases, don't write it for BlackBerry at all.

A couple years ago, we sucked for working with attachments (much MUCH better now). When apple came out with iPhone and I held it next to a Storm... I couldn't believe we were the industry leader. They blew us away.

That was then, we're back with a vengeance now!

But in all seriousness, it's what you want out of a phone... I like to email & text, I don't care about games, so BB all the way.

p.s. BlackBerry Messenger is huge, and is awesome with the newer versions of it. It beats the hell out of texting. It's instant, no character limit, and it has verification that it's: a) been delivered to the recipient, and b) they've read it. So no more of that "Oh, I didn't get your text" BS.

Downside: it's only for BlackBerry... but it does go over the BB network, so it makes sense.

Side note: When 9/11 happened, cellphones in NY and surrounding area didn't work, networks were over-loaded. Everyone communicated via BBM, BlackBerry's network was still going.

Oh, and apple's network gets hacked almost bi-weekly in some sort of way. iPad took like 10 days or something. BlackBerry has never been hacked, and phones never had a virus.

BES is amazing, too bad a lot of the people having the BB vs. iPhone debate have no idea what it is or have no use for it since they're not business customers.

App developers having to develop for a segmented platform isn't the only platform. The AppWorld is terrible, installing and removing apps is a pain, and they're generally unstable on older machines (partly the fault of developers).

I sure hope when you say "back with a vengeance" you know about something down the pipeline that isn't out now because what RIM is offering now is honestly sub-par. The older models (curve) had terrible stability issues, at least the new Bolds have improved in that respect.

Honestly, people just need to start using whatever they find works best for them. Try one, try the other, do some research BEFORE you buy and figure out what is best for your own situation.
