I'm currently a BMW 5-series owner and am thinking about getting an Audi - either an A6/A7 or an S4.

What is the current status of buying in the NEW US and importing to Canada?

a) Does it make financial sense?
b) Is the Audi factory warranty good up here for ALL service? are there any exceptions?
c) I presume that the only mod to the car might be the need to replace the speedometer (not really sure what current CAN/US model speedos look like. Is doing a speedo swap expensive?

d) Any other gotcha's?

e) What are your opinions about getting a 1-year old Audi in the USA vs. here?

f) Will dealers here sharpen their pencils if you go to them with a deal you're ready to pull the trigger on in the US?

I've read all about the paperwork requirements so I think I'm good to go on that front.

Getting a "brand" new car from the US is pretty tough. The only way I've heard of it working out is you have to have a US address for them to send the title to. And I would guess that a PO box or freight forwarding address aren't good enough. A nearly new, "used" car that the dealer already has a title for is not much of a problem at all. Buy, do paperwork, pay import fees and taxes, fix DRL to Canadian standards, inspection, drive.

I'm not sure about the warranty. There's plenty of guys that have imported though so I'm sure one of them will chime in on that.
