...and to add insult to injury: this afternoon, same spot on the highway, same spot on the windsield... took another stone and got another "bull's eye"... this is going to be another fifty bucks... A FEW MORE OF THESE AND I COULD BUY A NEW WINDSHIELD!

I agree with you....and I'm sure there are some good mechanics working for Canadian Tire. The drawback is that they have to push vehicles through rapidly and push sales (the business aspect).

Agreed. I feel bad for the good mechanics working in shops that force cut corners or don't get paid for time required to do the job properly.

Shop Book Time for specific jobs do not take time consuming variables into account, such as rusty and seized components, etc. This is one reason why some private reputable mechanics who guarantee their work charge by the hour and not by the job... to ensure the job is done right and the compensation is fair.
