HELP!!! Engine problems
I have a 2004 Audi Allroad with only 20,000k that got some front end damage from an accident about 3 years ago. I couldn’t find any parts used and the dealerships prices were crazy high so I decided to park it until I found the parts to fix it. Well now it’s 3 years later and the car has only 20,000k and I found all the parts. So first I sent it to a local shop with the front end disassembled and had the do the timing belt, tensioner, pulley and one of the timing belt cam gears I think its called because it had a nick in it from the accident. The timing belt never got damaged or came off but I wanted to change it while I was already in there. After the shop put the belt on and sealed it with al the covers I took it away to my garage and put the whole front end together rad support, rad, intercoolers fans, lights etc . Once I got it all together I filled all the fluids and double checked the levels. Finally ready to start the car when I started it the car made a really loud diesel knocking sound so I shut it down. Checked everything again and it looked fine. So I started it again and the same thing. Now after the 2 starts it will not start anymore it turns over but will not start. Is this bent valves? Did they install the timing belt wrong? How can I tell if the valves are bent? Please help me what should I do?

Re: HELP!!! Engine problems
technically they should turn the engine over once by hand prior to firing it up to ensure theres no interference....
lets hope it's your starter thats giving you strange sounds and not the valves...

Re: HELP!!! Engine problems
Hey thanks for the props! Sounds like the valves might be bent but it also sounds like the timing might be off... tough to say I can come and vag-com it see what kind of codes I am getting and we can figure it out!

Re: HELP!!! Engine problems
They said they did turn it over by hand and evrything looked good. If the timing was out should the car have actually started and run. I didn't think that was possible but I could be wrong. It actually started and ran 2 times but now it only turns over and doesn't run at all. I was thinking that it may have been sticky valves from sitting for 3 years and that would have caused them to bend. Is this possible? I appreciate all your help
Thanks again

Re: HELP!!! Engine problems
Hey just spoke to you on the phone but going to post this anyway for others! I think it is the fuel that has been sitting in the car for 3 years...as well as the fuel filter...this has caused your timing to go out causing the car not to start. At least a starting point now we will see when I scan it tommorow what kind of errors we get. By the sounds of it the timing belt is fine I am not sure about the tensioning of the belt but once again the Vag weill throw something at us hopefully

Re: HELP!!! Engine problems
VAG-COM will not report anything about T-Belt state or tension.
If the fuel is three years old, it's not fuel anymore. I'd drain as much of the old fuel as possible, change the fuel filter, refill tank, use ign on to activate fuel pump, then flush the lines to the engine fuel line coupler. The 2.7T fuel system is self priming.

Re: HELP!!! Engine problems
Hi,
If your problem of the loud diesel knocking sound is not solved then i have solution found there is one product called Bardahl Diesel Combustion Improver, you can try that as well and after that, add Bardahl Oil supplement for new engines, after oil/filter change.Hope this will help to solve your knocking problem..
