GRR speeding ticket :(
I was driving to mc donalds last night with a buddy at 3 AM and i got pulled over by a cop saying that I was doing 85km/h in a 50 which i definitely was not. the max i could have been dong was 65 because the road that he apparantly caught me on is completely screwed up due to construction. He did not radar me, and was not following close to the best of my knowledge. His body language made it seem like he was guessing as to how fast i was going. when the christmas lights did go off i was pulling up to a red light and was on the brakes, and he was very far back. To add another part to the story, i got pulled over about 1.5 KM's from where he apparantly caught me speeding.... on a completely different road. now this is the second ticket i have had this year, first one was my fault, this one seemed like the cop was looking to pick a fight. I am probably looking at an insurance rate hike because of this so i am definitely taking it to court. do you guys have any pointers or advice from looking over what happened. I would reallllly like this to get pardoned.
BTW, the actual charge that he gave me was 65 in a 50. first ticket i had was 129 in a 100

cops in toronto are pretty cool usually. this is weird. there are enough of them though, so there are surely some bad guys
anyway, I'd book a first attendance meeting. I think it's usually at the court, but you just show up during the week, sign up, and meet with a crown prosecutor. Ask them to let you plead guilty to 10 over the limit. This is the exact same fine as 15 over, but 10 over is not reported to insurance. They'll think you're nuts, because the fine is the same etc. but persevere and they'll make the deal guaranteed***.
Cheers

Re: GRR speeding ticket :(
are you sure that under 10km/h over the speed limit does not get reported to insurance? i actually think that i have a good chance of beating him aswell. im fairly certain that he does not have any actual proof that i was doing that speed.

Re: GRR speeding ticket :(
reasonably sure. a police officer told me that trick.
when I look at my insurance report, it doesn't reference my 10kmh over charges, so I have to believe that it's true.

Hi, every ticked it reported to insurance and affects your rate. You forget your driving licence one day, get a ticket and bam insure record gets updated...EVERY ticket is reported as i was told by an insurance person...believe me or not.

I choose 'not'. We're talking about 10kmh over, not driving without a driver's license. Next time you get your insurance statement (or more likely, your parents' statement), check the registered persons driving record section. I think you'll be surprised to find that not all convictions are reflected.

hey, first off I have my own insurance, house, and a wife but it would be nice if my parents paid for it. I guess you are speaking from your own experience... Secondly my father in law was very high up in the police force, for 35 years...but hey lets listen to your street cop friend, i dont care.

I did an insurance quote, and they knew I had a minor 10km over ticket.
If you suspect that he didn't radar you, you should have asked (nicely) to see the reading.
I would fight this for sure.

EVERY moving violation gets added to your Motor Vehicle Report (Driver's Licence), regardless of how bad it is. some insurance companies won't charge for the ticket if it's below 10km/h, but EVERY ticket gets shown to them. depending on the rating system for the insurer, your 10km/h-over ticket may or may not affect your rates on renewal (they aren't allowed to change the rates mid-term unless there is a material change in risk, like you move or change the car).
the cops generally have NO CLUE about insurance, especially in Ontario. here's an example:
you get t-boned in an intersection while making a left - cop shows up, writes the other guy a ticket for running the light, tells you you're not at fault since the other guy ran the light. you call your insurance company to report it, they say you're at fault. any time you're making a left, if you're in an accident, you're at fault from an insurance perspective.
