Default Different Ways To Tell If an Audi is Quattro

Hi Guys,

Im new here...
I dont own an Audi - yet - but I have always wanted one and am looking at older ones right now for my winter car.
I have tried to find an answer to my question somewhere online but I am drawing a blank.

As I have been looking at cars, I have noticed that some do not have quattro badges and I am trying to figure out if that means the car is not quattro, the badges are removed, or they never existed.

Is there any other ways (easy?) that you can tell if the car is a quattro?
I was wondering about the VIN# coding, maybe something in the identification plate?

Hopefully someone here can help?

Thanks!
Chad

Don't think the VIN would help, you can always look under the backend and see if there is a rear differential (i.e. most cars are front wheel drive only if not quattro, so a rear diff means quattro) Or could call a dealer with the VIN and ask them, they should be able to tell in their computer.

I would suggest to check inside the car by the glove box, as there is a slot for a quattro badge, if that was removed there would be an indent of some sort, otherwise 95% its not a quattro. Thats probably the easiest way without going through all the trouble. Most owners should have a carfax report as well which will also tell you if its quattro or not

Yeah, and looking at the pictures that were posted with the ad, I dont see any spots where it should have said quattro - carfax might work, but I dont think they have it. Apparently they have the UVIP - wonder if that will show anything?

Get under the car and look for shafts driving the rear wheels and center diff.
