dammit

Hi All, I am sure you all have better things to be doing than read my rant but I hope and PRAY that one of you has the mechanical or technical knowledge to assist me as I am out of options. I'll try and keep it short.

I purchased a beautiful, sharp although re-built 2009 Audi S5 from a local body shop. The car was my pride and joy. When I took it to the dealer for servicing they said that the air bag control module was not communicating and needed to be replaced. The body shop said that it wasn't an issue and would not affect the driving/performance of the vehicle so ultimately, the module was never replaced.

End of last year, my car was stolen. It was recovered 7 months later in bad condition. Some parts were in excellent conditions while others were destroyed. Now the authorities have questions regarding the 'fault codes' on the audi smart key. These codes had various time stamps including ones from when I purchased it along with ones when I drove it last.

They have asked me to explain the airbag, brake, TPMS amongst other fault codes recorded on the audi key as they suspect I was in a collision. The car was in tip top shape but I can't answer the electronic portion of their questions and how audi key / fault codes work.

So I went to the Audi dealer who had serviced my car who provided me a report of his last check. This report showed that these codes had originated from the time the vehicle was re-built and the faults were never cleared. So this leads me to my questions:

1) Since the airbag never deployed while the car was in my possession; how did the airbag "fault code" show up for a date when I was driving along with an older date. Clearly, the bag didn't deploy numerous times. Do the codes pop up all the time or how does that work on the smart key?

2) What is recorded on the Audi smartkey and how accurate is it?

3) Can Audi keys be duplicated without the owner's knowledge?
