Rust Proof Under Coating

Rust Proof Under Coating
Hello-
I recently purchased a new A4 and wanted to know whether it is wise to get the car underside, door & trunk interiors protected ( oil or other ) with rust proofing.
Can anyone share any past / present experiences on this topic ( good/bad )?
Many thanks in advance.

Re: Rust Proof Under Coating
I don't really know what to tell you. I haven't seen bad rust on a recent audi (within the last 10 years) in well never basically. The small spots that have appeared for some people are quickly taken care of.
The body pannels are galvanized so there is no worry of rust there as for the underbody I personally don't have rustproofing so I can't comment.
All I can tell you is that in terms of the underside the first thing to go will be the mufflers.

Re: Rust Proof Under Coating
What year car is it? My understanding is that the later model cars come with rust proof under coating so you don't need to apply it yourself.
I haven't had any experience with it otherwise.

Re: Rust Proof Under Coating
Audi uses a wax based rustproofing. Spraying other types on it may void warranty. I would start spraying it in a few years as the wax will pool in low spots of your car. I installed a stereo in my 2001 A6 and after removing the Blows (Bose) system I found over 1/4" of wax in low spots.

Re: Rust Proof Under Coating
My understanding is Audi factory galvanized rustproof and wax joint seal is one of the best available. Last I checked a few years ago, Audi guaranteed no rust thru perforation of any sheetmetal for 12 years, unlimited owners and unlimited mileage.
Especially with a new Audi, there should be no need for aftermarket rustproofing and as already mentioned, some aftermarket options may void factory rustproof warranty.
Stay on top of paint chip touch-ups and you shouldn't see any rust for a very long time.

Re: Rust Proof Under Coating
this goes for most of Canada..if u live in an area where salt is used it would be wise to use rust check or krown..all of this talk about 12 year rust warranty is BS..they will only cover rust when it rusts from the inside of your car...most of the rust u see on cars is surface rust..it's worth the 120$ per year fee
