S4 vs RS4 ???

Re: S4 vs RS4 ???
The main reasons not to get an RS4 over an S4 are money or you need an automatic or a wagon.
Wildly OT but how's your car running, Axel?

Me too but I've been glad I had a wagon more times than I wish I was as fast as an RS4, the most recent being carting a freezer around.

Clutch release bearing was replaced and it fixed one issue but not the other so I'm a little frustrated about that one.

Re: S4 vs RS4 ???
I believe the engine in the B6 and B7 S4 is the same. The S5 is different (I think it has FSI) and the RS4 is different again.
I wanted an RS4 too but again, could not afford it. The S4 is a good car though, more understated than the RS4 and probably a more comfortable cruiser.

i've ridden in both, don't know the technical details on the difference between the two models, but from my experiences in mr lieberman's car, the rs4 fawkin rocks! i'd message craig on l4p about the car. he absolutely loves it! and i think thats saying something coming from a guy that had some of the absolute wildest cars ever built.

Re: S4 vs RS4 ???
he (lieberman) sold that car to Dan at jhm...and with their supercharger it will probably be the first Audi b5/6/7/8 s4/rs4/rs6/r8 to run a 10 second quarter mile on pump gas. it already ran 12.2 with just tune exhaust and clutch

I think the JHM tune changes over 100 parameters or something like that. A lot of tiny changes = more power.
Most other tuners for the v8 S4 only change like 10 to 20 (again, if memory serves. I am getting old after all).
Sakimano should chime in and correct me if I'm off base here.
P.S. Sakimano, I hate reading your S4/RS4 comparisons. Makes me angry at Audi every time for not bringing the RS4 Avant over...sigh...

in fact the guys at giac, apr etc only make a handful of changes to the b6/7 s4 or rs4 tunes. timing, throttle, air fuel ratio, rev limiter, speed limiter. they gave admitted this on the forums and have all but abandoned these cars, tuning wise because of the troubles they've had making meaningful gains...and because of the dominance jhm has enjoyed.
because of this people are often misled into thinking there are very little gains to be had in a tune for an na car. tell that to the guys who are shaving 5-7 tenths off their stock quarter mile times with jhm tune and modest exhaust modifications. for perspective the tune plus bolt on b8 s4 guys on pump gas are running the same times as the tune plus bolt on rs4 guys. the cars are basically identical stock performance wise...so the delta with tune plus bolt on mods is about the same.
you just need to deal with jhm on these 4.2 v8 cars as they have had proven results. their tune writer works for a major automaker in their performance division...that's how he is able to deliver gains within the ecu where others are not. He knows inside out where to look for the performance gains as he builds tunes from the ground up, rather than making only four or five changes to the stock tune these Audi's come with.
