Hi everyone, I'd like to recount my recent adventures with replacing my OEM non-sport suspension on my 2004 B6 quattro. The STASIS suspension is a good solution, my problem is with finding the correct shop to install it. Last spring I started to look at upgrading my suspension to improve handling and reduce the well known understeer. I looked at various options and read numerous experiences on various forums. I settled with the stasis streetsport suspension because it met my needs in terms of a good compromise between handling and comfort. I wasn't looking for a pavement dragging hard as rock type of set-up. (I'm to old for that). I contacted stasis and requested a name of an installer in Montréal. I visited the installer and he gave me a price and date for the installation. It was postponed twice over a period of two months. Apparently Stasis had the suspension on back order. I finally decided to call STASIS again and asked for a distributor who had the suspension in stock. Guess what? There was one in NJ who had five ready to ship. I ordered and three days later I had the suspension, after paying for freight customs, brockerage taxes ($250). Maybe the original installer and Stasis didn't want to do business together... Now my challenge was finding another installer. I found one on the Montreal Racing's web site. I left the car in the morning and when I went to pick it up in the afternoon, the owner said he was unable remove one of the bolds from the suspension and therefore he couldn't do the job. I suspect he also damaged the bolt covers on the wheels by removing them with ascrew driver. Anyway I found another installer who was available and specializes in VW Audi cars. He did the work etc etc. He said he used the STASIS specs for height adjustments. Well the car was to low 24.75 inch and I had rubbing, hitting the bumb stop etc etc. I looked at web pictures of Audi' with the same suspension and they were definately not as low as mine. I went back and had the suspension lifted so that I'm now around 25.75- 26 inch. Much better. The mechanic complained that the STASIS specs are incorrect. He adjusted the front coils without taking the pressure off the springs. He hand raised it with a wrench.I'm not sure that's the way to do it!He also didn't put the OEM original rubber dust sleeves over the struts. They are exposed. I'm not sure he torqued the bolts per the STASIS specs either. Somehow I,d rather trust the STASIS engineers rather that a weekend racer mechanic who doesn't follow the instructions. Now I'm hearing a knocking noise in from the front left when steering. What can I say, back to the shop again. The adventure continues. Anybody have a suggestion?
