Hi Guys

recently I got a pretty good offer from my friend who is heading back to his own country and never come back. So his 2009 x6 50i is for sale.

1.the car had only changed synthetic oil once at 20000km.
2. the only accident of the car was a crush of front bumper and costed 4000 to repair.
3. the car has the old I-drive (may need 4000 US dollar to update to the new retrofit)
4. and compare to the new X6 which has 8 speed gear box, this one only has 6-speed
5. the milege is at 25000km so far (he got this car at May 2009)
6. it is fully loaded (eveything equiped, including dynamic handling, etc. cost him $105800)

The price he offers is 60K everything included ( 20k lower than market price, checked on Trader.ca)


there is also an alternative choice

which is S5 (base + navi, 70k tax included)

its a choice between a brand new car, or an used one

(Q5 is not in my consideration since it has got absolutely no power at all )

Well for me two cars serve the same purpose. Im not lookin in particular for a big/small car. I just want to buy a car that looks stylish and certainly more fun to drive

personally I love S5 better, but the X6 deal is attractive too... thats the spot im confusing

Two totally different cars and I believe they both serve different purposes. If you already have a nice sedan than I believe that x6 would be a better choice. I've driven an x5 before for a few years and absolutely loved the car. Nothing can beat feeling so high off the ground you just feel like a pimp. So it really would depend on your garage. Many people think the x6 is ugly, but definitely better than all the other crossovers.

A friend has an X6 M and that thing is ultimate class and power. Probably a little different than your X6 but you probably have a similar package minus the power.

As mentioned by the poster above, it really depends on what you need the car for. If you are planning on keeping it for a while, the X6 might be a more useful car long term. But the S5 is alot of fun to drive.

One thing is for sure, after being in my friend's X6 my opinion of it has changed for the better.

both the cars sever in the different ways the best way is selecting the x6 car because it has an different look and style. the performance of this is also good, the comfort is good, so friend use x6 than x5.

so ? After driving your S5 for 3 years, do you think it still worth it ? or you think X6 is better ( regardless of the practicality , just in terms of your happiness)

If you have a family, go for the X6, otherwise, get the new S5. Personally, I wouldn't spend $4k to retrofit the new iDrive to the old X6.

Actually, I think you should buy the X6 first if it's significantly below the market price. Drive it for a while to decide if you wanna keep it. A new S5 is always available, so no rush.

I think BMW is a great brand. I think they make great products.

BUT

that X6 is easily the stupidest car in the world. From the day I sat in one at a BMW dealership (and couldn't fit in the backseat because of the sloping roofline)...to the day I saw my neighbour come home with an X6M, I've wondered in my head what the point of it is?

• there's no boot...no room for much
• the backseat sucks for adult humans
• it's too high, so having a TT V8 is a waste since your centre of gravity is too high to really enjoy it
• it weighs 5000lbs

All around, I just ask...wtf is the point? An X5 with a 3.0 Turbo diesel? Sign me up. But the X6 is the ultimate facepalm car/truck (or whatever it is)

Now...comparing ownership of an X6 to an S5 is a funny comparo...but it's really not. Both have limited cargo carrying capacity. Both are fast. Both have crap backseats. But the S5 is an absolute stunner from just about every angle...has a great 4.2 FSI engine...and all around is a far more special car.

If you get the X6 you may be wondering 'why do I own this thing' after 2 months. If you get the S5, you will be wondering 'how could I have thought twice about this?'

BMW makes some nice cars (and I loved my E36 3 series and had difficulty parting with it, even though it was 19 years old and had over 300k on it) but I have to agree with sakimano, the X6 isn't one of those great BMWs and is simply a "ridiculous car" (to quote Top Gear).
