Default Audi Courtesy Cars

Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum.. used to be a member of r8 talk a few years ago but that forum doesn't seem to be working anymore!

Anyways, I'm the owner of a 2012 Audi R8 V10, bought brand new in Manitoba before I moved back home to Toronto. I'm also the owner of a 2014 Audi A5 which I also bought brand new.

I'm not sure if I'm being totally unreasonable, and thats why I'm asking for opinions here... But the R8 is in for repairs... The transmission was making a grinding noise when going from third to fourth so I took it in, in July. They apparently needed some special tool the open the tranny up which was backordered from Germany.... so after a gruelling six week wait (in all fairness, the dealer did tell me I could drive the car in the meantime, although I didn't drive it very much because I was afraid of doing more damage to the transmission and there were no guarantees at this point that it would be covered under warranty) the part finally came in. It took them another three days to diagnose the problem which they figured out was indeed involving the transmission (I was thinking synchros but they said it was a "bigger" issue than that) and they opted to replace the entire transmission instead of rebuild it... Lo and behold, the transmission is on backorder now for another 3 weeks, this time though, the car is completely incapacitated.

The dealer gave me a courtesy car - a brand spankin new Audi A3. I have a couple of other cars so this didn't bother me much, I leave the A3 at the house in case I need it desperately... And then today my out of town brother in law showed up and reminded me I promised him he could borrow one of my vehicles for the next week while he's in town, and my fiancee is driving the other one. So I'm relegated to driving the A3 and I'm not terribly pleased about this. Maybe its arrogant, and maybe its unreasonable, but I feel like if I have dropped that much money on an R8 I should be driving a car that is at least comparable to it in terms of quality and design. An A3 seems like an unlikely suitor. I called Audi Canada and they haven't been much help at all - didn't even call me with a followup at the promised time (I had to call them the next day and find out what was going on!)

I totally get that it would be unrealistic to expect an Audi R8 as a courtesy car. But is it out of line to expect an A8? Even an S6? Especially when the car has essentially been out of commission due to a warranty issue for the better part of 2 months, out of a 5 month driving season we have in Toronto?

I was hesitant to call Audi Canada up and make an issue of it, but a friend of mine who has a 911 had an issue with the vehicle under warranty and they arranged to get him a 911 4S to match his car that was going to be down for a week... This is over 8 weeks for mine!

Any opinions are welcome!

Your experience is not unique.

My dad has a Jag XF. he has had various courtesy cars the odd time a repair took overnight. They are anything the car rental company that the dealership uses has available. Once a Fiat 500, Once a Chrysler 200.

It would be interesting to see the wording of your contract.
