when i first had the oil light go off thought it was no big deal. filled it up and drove on. Then it happened again, and again and again.....seems each time the gap in-between gets shorter. definetly think its an A4 problem

Re: 09 A4 2.0T got recall for engine Oil burning issue
I had the same problem (A3 2.0T, Y2007), it was burning about a quart of oil every 2000miles. It wasn't that bad initially (I bought new vehicle, and it was consuming about quarter per 5000 miles). When I complained first time, audi service in Boulder (Stammler Audi) initially kept convincing me how it is "normal". When I pointed out that my friend's GTI (same platform as A3) has no oil consumption problem whatsoever, they basically told me that I am full of ****, and that all these high compression engines (their words) consume that much oil. Then after I was persistent, and kept coming to the shop whenever I run out of oil, they decided to take a look. And they claim they found some mysterious leak, from valves, or something of that sort, into the transmission box. I heard lot of BS in car repair shops when they don't know what is wrong, but this one is for encyclopedia. But that didn't help, and the oil consumption increased to qt/2000 miles.
And I kept complaining that this is BS, then they did again couple of times consumption tests (I was driving for 1000 miles, then for 600 and they measure the oil consumption. After the last one they did, they told me that audi "just" changed the specs, so my increased consumption is still normal. Then I asked the guys in the shop, if this was their car, would they be ok with it, and their mechanics admitted - no.
So, I got little bit "concerned", and after a lot of pushing, whining, and complaining, mainly because my warranty expires in 2 weeks, Stammler got "approval" from Audi to have my engine opened and inspected. I must say here, Stammler guys were nice and kind all the time to me, just didn't wanna do anything, before my warranty almost expired.
Well, as far as I know, they replaced all the piston gaskets, bunch of seals and that kind of crap. They didn't find any cylinder shape problem, compression was normal, and there was no damage on the cylinder walls. But they found that the camshaft developed some serious issue, so they replaced it. They claim it has nothing to do with the oil problem. And then they told me that the engine had lot of carbon deposits, so they had to clean it up (they told me that is normal, although car has 37000 miles, but I am not sure if I should believe to that after all this hassle).
Now I have car back, seems normal, but I dunno yet if they fixed the problem with oil. I must say, I am pretty disappointed, and I lost confidence in that car. I am a caver, and travel a lot in the wilderness, nowI am afraid that my car may develop some serious issue when I go far from any civilization. So I think I will to sell my car ASAP, and get something else, no Audi's for me anymore.

Re: 09 A4 2.0T got recall for engine Oil burning issue
My dealer did the Test on my 2009 A4 2.0T, but they said it is normal. Guess what, my car is burning 1L of engine oil around every 2500km. I believe it is not normal at all, i have to fill up at least 12 bottles of 1L engine oil every year. **** the audi, i am going back to BMW after this stupid lease END.

cheer up...two posts ago you said 'no big deal...I just have to put some oil in every 2500km'
now you're saying *%&# Audi.
I told you months ago what would happen if your consumption was more than 1 quart per 1100km. You were nowhere near that, so they will do nothing. Simple.

You have an A5 and a Q7? Is the A5 2.0T?

Re: 09 A4 2.0T got recall for engine Oil burning issue
HI I posted a few years ago about my 2007 A4 having a high oil consumption. After seals being replaced and being told this was normal (1L/1000km) I kept on the program. Recently, at 105000 km my car started to make some weird noises. I brought it to the mechanic and he had to replace the serpentine belt with tensionnors (apparently these should last to 190000km) and now have just replaced my Turbo (almost $3000.00) ouch. Guess what they found in my intercooler? Leaked oil!!!!! My mechanic now tells me he believes it is only a matter of time until my new turbo goes again. When he called and asked at the dealership Owasco Audi about it they responded that they never have turbo problems, but did have a replacement turbo in stock. What a joke of customer service this company has since of course, now my car is no longer under warranty and I listened to them originally. All who are using oil may want to have these mechanical parts checked now. Do not give in to their comments of this is normal!
