As I reported this problem to Audi Care, I was bounced around and 'helped' by 3 reps. It turned out that they were no more than 'telephone receptionists' who took my call, then called the dealer, then reported what the dealer said to me. They had no interest in discussing the case. They have no 'teeth' whatsoever.
In contrast, in previous cases, I was able to interact even with the secretary of Lexus' president, who personally handled my case; though they were not able to solve the problem because it was a design issue. And the sales manager of Infiniti was fired because of his ill-treatment with me (possibly among other things). Mercedes faired no better. They never really helped in my cases.
Is this a German vs Japanese service mindset thing?
