Was given a 2005 Audi TT convertible for mine & my husband's 10 yr anniversary. Sorry if this is long, but I have a headache and am tired of looking on the internet for an answer for this so figure more info is better than too little.

I am a little unsure if I have a problem or not...I've been to a couple of other boards and came across this one of which seems would suit me better since this is TT specific.

Anyway first I know I have Xenon headlights...can someone out there please tell me how these are supposed to work when in the first, second, pull out first and pull out second positions? Also what the damn lights are called on the headlight? This is how I understand it:

~Lights to the sides (the yellow ones outward) turn signal lights?
~Light next to those to the left / right going inward, the headlight?
~Light next to that in the middle...the full / high beam???
~Light RIGHT next to it in that same area, the sidelight?
~Light next to that, the last one inward, the fog light?
~And then the yellow strip on the bottom of the lights, daytime running?

I have a standard light switch to operate the lights. I have seen where there is an Auto option on some of the switches but those seem to be for 2006 and newer...

So, again, not sure if I have a problem or not, but this is what happens when I turn on the switch:

~Upon turning on the ignition the driving running lights do not come on or stay on. Not sure if this is because this is a US model not Canadian? Also, can those be enabled at all with a Vag Com unit (I have one).

~First position on headlight switch the =00= symbol -- I gather this is supposed to be the side lights / parking lights that turn on? Nothing comes on in this position at all.

~Second position to the right (the one where a picture of a low beam is) -- the head lights come on, or essentially the low beam...no other lights but just those.

~The know pulled out and in the first position, nothing.

~The **** pulled out to the second position -- the low beam (headlight?) and fog light (the other little bulb) both come on.

~Clicking the lever on the steering wheel turns on the large lamp, the high beams? The switch does not turn on that light at all.

I hope I explained ok...I feel incredibly dumb not being able to figure out headlights but I really want to know if this is the way they are supposed to work...meaning they were factory set up this way because I am in the US, or if they are supposed to work differently and there is a problem, I'd like to try and narrow down what the problem could be?

Fuses checked -- look OK.

Switch itself?
