Stolen rims!

Stolen rims!
Hey guys, I was woken up this morning with horrible news. Sombody had stolen my s4 rims off my car in my driveway and my car was resting on bricks. I immediatly called the police. They asked me to come in to the comunity station between the hours of 10-7. I then reported it to my insaurance company and an estimator should be there in the next 24-48 hours. At 6pm today I showed up to the police station and filled a report. The officer asked me how much were the rims and tires worth? The officer then proceeded to tell me there probably only worth 500$. I wanted to freak out, but I managed to keep my cool. I just recently spent 1400$ on tires alone so i ended up writing they were probably worth 3000$ in the report. I'm furious! I cant belive somebody has the ***** to do such a thing. I have no idea as to what will happen from here. I dont want them to tow my car as it will cause more damage. I'm praying that the car will not be a write off. I'm so lost for words... I have no clue to what will happen i never had to deal with an insaurance company before. But I must say that they have been treating me very well so far. They booked a reservation for me and got me rental. Did any of you guys have to deal with something like this? What should I do? Will I get ripped off by the insaurance company? Whats going to happen?

Re: Stolen rims!
Well, first off. They can't tow your car if it has no wheels. (They could flat bed it I guess?) Secondly, insurance should get you the same wheels you had if they were OEM. If not, it will be up to you to prove what wheels you had and what they are worth. Any other damage should be taken care of by your insurance as well. Good luck, if your insurance company is good you should be just fine in the end.

Re: Stolen rims!
Sorry to hear it. Documentation helps the claims process considerably. A copy of the receipt for the new tires along with details of the wheels (pics, bills for refinishing etc.) should get you back into a similar position you were in prior to the theft. Dont forget to make sure any paint or body damage is also taken care of ...
Obviously you'll have to pay a portion of the loss (based on whatever your deductible is).

Re: Stolen rims!
I would lean to an audi owner in your area most likely, drive around and look for someone with your rims - and/or check craigslist and kijiji for new ads
*in case of people thinking I can't change a tire, I have group CAA and they where there before I unloaded my trunk to get the spare lol.... otherwise I would have finished the job

Re: Stolen rims!
Many wheel lock keys have a similar design. My one for my old Accord was nearly identical to the one for my Audi. People that steal wheels on a regular basis usually have a variety of lock keys to choose from. As long as one of them is close in design it can be made to work. It's really more of a deterrent for casual thieves and vandals.

Re: Stolen rims!
Man that person had quite the pair to steal rims right in front of your place. I guess I must be a little new but I always thought that wheel locks were a gimmick. I guess I need FTP look into some myself. Good luck with the insurance. Do you have pics of them just I case I run across them in my search for some nice rims myself?

Re: Stolen rims!
i work as an insurance broker here in manitoba, and i sell private auto in nunavut.... all i can say is if you have bills that's great, your insurance should be replacement cost, hopefully you have comprehensive coverage, which you should.
you could also go down to an audi dealer and get a price on a set of rims to support your case.
as for the wheel locks, i used to work in at a chrysler dealership (shut it! there was lots of work atleast) but if we couldn't find a key lock, we just took a cheap 16 pt socket and hammered it on... in any case it's an unfortunate event that you can't really forsee.
good luck with the insurer, but don't settle with their first offer you can counter if you like... you pay enough money for your insurance, time for it to go to work for you.
hope that helps... and sorry again to hear that.

Re: Stolen rims!
I had someone loosen my rims, and after that, I installed surveillance cams on my driveway. Spend $700 on a set of infra red cams and a HD/internet set-up (Lorex makes em and no, I don't have an affinity, just a suggestion) and make them obvious. Your driveway is the most likely place you get hit because a thief in the market for them (often special order) will make note of the car's presence and plan accordingly. Check Craigslist to see if they show up.
