So, I'm going to pose another perplexing question to the masses, and this came from my wife, when I suggested an RS6.
Which which would you choose, given price was equal . An '03 RS6 (most likely US model), or an 06 A6 4.2l?
Her logic, and I will admit it's pretty sound, is newer body style, less abuse, better features, lower insurance, and better mileage.
My logic is 450BHP!!!!

In reality if the purchase price is the same, I still think it depends on what your pocket book will bear after the purchase is complete. That being said, it's really a need vs want issue. If they both fulfill your needs, but only one will fulfill your want, then I'd say get what you want. Personally I wouldn't want to regret my decision by feeling I'm missing something by picking my number 2 choice.

I'd want the RS6 over the A6, so that would be my choice. BUT, the RS6 is going to need to be an avant to fit 3 kids and a dog.

I just bought an '04 S4 Avant. It is indeed a bit small for 2 kids and a dog.... There is not much leg room in the back (depending on the height of the people who sit in the front)
I rented an Audi S6 2002 or 2003 2 years ago and that car had much more legs room in the back and still was very impressive to drive. (not as the s4 though but still that is the car that made me fall in love with the 4.2 v
