RS4

Yeah, I'm really a fan of the AWD though... I want something to drive all year around...
I'm trying to broaden my horizons, but there isn't too much out there that offers performance and AWD...
Mazda Speed 6 (or whatever it's called...), some Subaru Legacys..., WRX Sti None of which offer the same luxury, but are much more economical...

If you're looking for a car in the $100K price range today that needs to be: fast, AWD, four doors and can be used all season long, the RS4 is probably one of the best options out there if you can swallow the cost.
Now if the BMW M3 V8 with four doors comes out, that'll make things interesting. AWD is nice but having driven in snow all winter long with FWD and RWD cars with all seasons, you can still get by with RWD/FWD with the proper winter tires.
But again, for those who had a B5 A4/S4 back then, we'll never see that kind of price/value ratio ever again. As mentioned before, Audi was at a do or die situation back then otherwise they'd pull out of the North American market. The first A8 was sold at a lost. The A4 was priced VERY competitively to take sales away from BMW, MB, etc. and it obviously worked. Now prices are more in-line with the competition.
And hey, a 84 Toyota Corolla could be bought for $8000. Now how much does a base Corolla cost? Things are always going up in price unfortunately.

there seems to be more and more audis on the street now....it use to be BMW everywhere you turn ( i can tell seeing how my family owned 3 now 2).....while 100k price range is pretty high for a High Performance Audi...apparently DT Finecars(Audi) already has their batch of Rs4 all reserved/sold as soon as the hit the docks....

Audi's definetly on a roll on coming out with sport-oriented and agressive looking sedans lately.... RS4, S6, S8, then the R8, and more recently, joint project between Audi and KTM to develop a "baby TT" to go up against the Lotus Elise. I know about 1-2 years ago, Len Hunt at the time stated that Audi is going to be their sporting brand while VW would try and go up against MB which failed IMO.
Now a light RWD Audi to go against the Elise would be nice to see.

Used to drive the Passat and then A4 3.0 and always wanted another 50 or so hp (yes, should have gone for the 1.8s and a chip....)
Audi announced the 3.2 and I thought...almost perfect.
Went looking, pricing and, in a moment of insanity, thought about the S4. +50HP or +120 (50%) who's counting ?
Now I'm in the S, and I still can't help but think....just a little bit more.
The S is a startlingly fast car (apparently) it just doesn't feel like it when you're driving it (passengers, however, tell a different story.)
The RS4...Love to have one, terrific engine, but the torque peak, if memory serves, has moved up the rpm range a bit and it still makes the big HP numbers way high up there
(more useable than the S admittedly. sorry, 340HP @ 7000 redline is academic...does nothing for you.)
They've done some nice work with the weight reduction, new suspension, etc, but is it enough ? Don't get me wrong, love a V8 that can do 8 grand+ but where to drive it ?
It's a lot more money...pick up an '04 or '05 S4 for half and get much of the same.
I'm sure this has been around, but this is a nice drive of the new S8 (in German)
Roads like this, and understanding law enforcement, that's where the RS4 belongs.

It's a shame the V10 won't fit.
THAT would be a car.

For $100K with AWD, I'd look for a used Porsche. If you really need a RS4 then problably best to wait 2-3 years and pick one up for 60'ish.

I test drove a B6 S4 sedan, fast indeed, and sounds gorgeous especially with that timing chain right next to the firewall. And the seats, awesome, they should be standard!!
What I didn't like: the weight. Pushing the S4 around the bends you can feel the weight up front. With the A4, it's not all that apparent but it feels slightly nimbler with less weight overally up front.

Go to www.rs6.com/forum and in the RS4/S4 forum, there are a few reviews. To sum it up nicely, a lot of new owners cannot believe how well the car handles, and these are owners that have Porsches and track them.
