Opinions on '07 S4
Hello all,
I just joined the forum tonight as I'm thinking about purchasing an S4 and I was hoping to solicit some input from folks that have gone before me
I'm looking for an Avant specifically as I have 2 kids and like being able to cart around stuff. I'm coming from an '02 BMW 325iT so I KNOW I want another wagon.
I found what appears to be a really nice '07 S4 Avant 6spd man fully loaded (Nav/Sound/sunshades/full leather/??). It's at a BMW dealership here in Calgary and they're asking $42,998 which strikes me as pretty steep for 60,500Km.
I guess what I'm asking is, does this seem reasonable? There sure don't seem to be many S4 Avants anywhere in Canada so I'm wondering if I should jump on this one as it does appear to be pretty clean.
If anybody has any suggestions or input on my search for a good S4 Avant I certainly would appreciate hearing from you!
Cheers,
Mike

Re: Opinions on '07 S4
incredibly, the price isn't too bad at all. I looked for avants in Canada for about 5 months before abandoning the idea and buying a sedan from the USA. Selection there is incredible compared to here, so you may want to consider this as I can tell you...S4 avants are few and far between (hence the price)
To that end, if the car is awesome, history checks out, negotiate hard and you should be ok. 60,000 kms is nothing really...that's 15-20,000km/ year (the car is approaching 4 yrs).
Since it's at a BMW dealership, they DON'T want it on the lot. They don't (BMW) like offmake preowned inventory...especially Audis. Therefore, they'll punt it off to wholesale soon. IF it checks out, I'd offer them about $1000 over wholesale (which is probably $35,000) and see what happens. They have to pay auction fees...accept a horrible price...and just generally be hassled getting rid of it. I think they'd be happy for you to solve their problem.

Sakimano,
Thanks for the response! Your reasoning is very much in line with what I was thinking about the dealer not wanting to hang on to it any longer than necessary.
I went and talked to the Audi dealership today about warranties and the concept of purchasing a 3rd party warranty since this vehicle would not be covered like a CPO one would be. The business manager indicated that it would be upward of $5000 for the 3rd party warranty that best matched the Audi Canada CPO program!
I'm currently thinking that if I'm going to purchase a car like the S4 I'd really like some extended warranty as I know it would be $$$ if something went wrong. How DIY-friendly is the S4? Currently I do a lot of the work on my BMW myself but it's mechanically and electronically much simpler than an S4.
I was looking at some posts (including yours) about importing from the US but they were all at least a year old...is it still relatively simple to do so with an S4 or has Audi made it more difficult like Mercedes and BMW?
Sorry for all the questions but I really want to make sure I'm thinking about S4 ownership correctly before pulling the trigger!
Cheers,
Mike

Re: Opinions on '07 S4
To my knowledge, the process is still pretty simple. Audi has lowered prices here in Canada, so there is less reason to import price wise...but selection wise it's fantastic
re: waranties - don't forget when you buy from the dealer, they are basically buying a $2900 warranty, and then adding $1500 profit for themselves to the deal. Yes.
