Default Offset question - any help? B7 S4

Hi there. I'm looking to add a set of winter wheels to my S4. While shopping for wheels, I thought of getting 18" B7 RS4 type wheels and using my stock wheels for snows.

I've run into the 'offset' question a few times. No idea what I'm supposed to be looking for. I think my stock setup is ET45, but no idea what that even means.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any feedback.

p.s. any idea where to find a nice set of 18" RS4 reps? i.e. the VMR V708 by Velocity Motoring?

Typically most will prefer the more aggressive stance that lower offset wheels provide as the wheels are "pushed out" so that they are flush with the body. I'm pretty sure the ET for OEM S4 wheels is 43 not 45 (not that 2 mm is noticeable). Here's a shot of mine with Volks (19 x 8.5" wheels with a 35 offset). The net effect of the 1/2 inch wider (half of the wheel to the outside is 1.27 mm) combined with 8mm difference in offset reflects a bit over 9 mm further out compared to OEM wheels ...

Another way to get an aggressive look is with spacers. I had 8 mm spacers in front and 15 mm in the rear of my B6 so the wheels had the same appearance of having an ET of 35 in front and ET of 30 in the rear.

I'd suggest you look for wheels that have an offset in the mid 30's and you'll end up with a nice aggressive look without it being over the top and potentially rubbing if too wide. Hope this helps and good luck !

excellent response, thanks very much. Love those wagons. I tried to find a B7 S4 Avant when I bought my sedan, but couldn't find one anywhere.

That B7...do you have any side views? Looks like the white balance was set very 'cool' on that one pic. Who took it?

Pics were taken by a bud of mine here in Ottawa (Eric Grenier). Here's a couple more ...

awesome. Love the blue.

Yeah, I scoured the US for one as well. It was weird...they carry a huge premium in the States vs. the sedans. Best I could find for an 07 with low miles was $46,000. Your deal sounds brilliant.

Funny thing is that it would have been close to $5K less if purchased 10 days earlier when our dollar was at an all time high.

Up here peeps look down on wagons ...

the dollar sure has been wild. I bought my US S4 in May. Converted at par50 (1.0050/USD)

As for wagons...not just up here...over here really. Same in the US.

they'll all see...soon enough the diesel wagon will be the family mobile. That's Audi's vision too I think.

We'll need another car in the spring. I'd really like to get a new B8 A4 Avant 3.0 TDI. There was lots of talk about that car being available next year here.

0-60 in 5.9 seconds, 800-900 km on a 62 litre tank of diesel!

No question the torque provided by diesel engines is awesome ... I wonder if anyone will eventually offer a class II hitch. I need to tow a boat twice per year and there isn't one on the planet available for my car.

Wow AvantQuattro~ your car is a breath taking S4!!! Beatiful.
I have question tho.
Are your wheels 35 offset without spacer all around? or did you put spacers at the rear wheels?
The fit on your car looks just perfect to me and I am thinking about getting a set of wheels.
I am doing some research on what to get, specifically what size, width, offset, etc...

Thanks ! Wheels are 19 x 8.5" and 35 offset (no spacers). If you can, go with lighter wheels as they make a big difference in the ride, handling and acceleration !
