Cool B7 S4 Motor Oil

Just wanted to know if anyone has tried other motor oils on the B7 4.2?
I currently have the Fully Syn Castrol Motor Oil. I have been suggested to try Ams Oil or Royal Purple. I have also been to "AVOID" Mobil 1 as all costs....
Does anyone have any suggestions... I wanna give my baby nothing but the good stuff!!!
Thanks!

My last oil change I used Lubro Moly which is the oil used and suggested by JHM. I have heard good things about Royal Purple as well. I am glad you posted this thread as I intend on doing all my own oil changes from now on and like to know what others use and why and the cost. I ordered my Lubro Moly form JHM along with the MANN filter. It was a reasonable cost however combined with shipping and customs it wasn't so much of a deal anymore.

By the way my future oil changes will be done using the extraction method as oposed to the gravity drain method. SAKIMANO and I did my last oil change this way and I am convinced it is the way to go. I also did some research which confirms this.

Cool Re: B7 S4 Motor Oil

Hey Mikeh, glad i could help thats what this site is all about.....
I read your thread, Im guessing the motor oil JHM recommends is not sold here in Canada, is it? Im also assuming the same thing goes for the Mann Filter?
Whats this about the "extraction method" as opposed to the gravity drain method? Whats the difference if you dont mind me asking?
What have you and Sakimano found out on your research???

We had a large debate on Euro Addiction regarding the difference on Extaction and Gravity. Gravity draining is your traditional jack up the car, remove the underbelly diffusers, open the drain plug and let er go. The extraction method is done at most high end dealerships now like Mercedes where the engine oil is warm so that any sludge is emulsified in the oil. Then a tube is inserted down the dip stick and the oil is sucked out by vacuum into a container. The container is PELA 14 (do google search). The extraction is very clean, no jacking of car, and it does get all the oil out.

As for the Lubro Moly oil, I have not able to find it in Canada althouth NAPA web site says they have it. The MANN filter can be obtained here as well.

The research I have done is that the extraction method, if done according to instructions will remove all the oil and any sludge if the oil is warm (not extremely hot). Even indicates this on the PELA site.

Hope I answered your questions?

Cool Re: B7 S4 Motor Oil

Ok, i know exactly what your talking about.... I remember using that several times while working for BMW, they a bigger cannister and would do most of te oil changes like that while having the OBD running to check for faults on the cars.... yea i like that system, efficient, cleaner, and easy to use.... no need to get on the ground for a DIY.... thanks Mikeh
As for the Motor Oil, i just found out that Napa apparently as it, just as you mentioned....
Just out of curiosity..... are there any meets coming up, that your aware of.... never been to one and I would like to go to one....

For sure!!!

Check out GTA Meets, Eurofest, and the Golden Horseshoe Meets (I am involved in this one). Our Golden Horseshoe group has a very active BlackBerry Messenger Group going as well as a general e-mail notification of events and activities. We have several people who travel from the GTA to Hamilton just to join us. If you are interested send me your e-mail address and I will put you on the list or if you have a BB send me your PIN #. Other than ours I understand that there is an active Toronto Group meeting once per month. Search through the forum and you will find them.

yeah, more 4.2 S4 guys are needed in the Golden Horseshoe meets. we're badly outnumbered by A4s!

FYI most guys recommend the LubroMoly. I use Castrol.
