Default 2001/02 s4 2.7 vs 05 2.0

I am thinking about purchasing one of the two, the 05 would be simply because its newer. but I hear that the 2.7 in the s4 is extremely good and reliable. Is it true? how do they stand up to the b6 engines, 1.8 2.0? Im planning on doing some modding, this will be my first car. I will be taking it to the track as often as i can. Is the turbo issue the same for these cars?

PS: I would be buying in the 50k mile range for the s4 and the 30-40k mile range for the a4.

Hey to help answer ur question, because you said you want to take it to the track, and do modding etc, here are some things to think about. The 2005 is about 200hp with a 2L, the s4 is rated at 250. As far as workability on the motors goes, to upgrade the turbo on the 05 you wouldnt need to pull the motor, you would only need 1 turbo to do the upgrade, and there's more space under the hood. The S4, you would need 2 turbo's, it's a tight fit under the hood, not alot of room for anything, and to upgrade the turbos your looking at a lot of labour becuase you have to pull the motor (apparently there are ways to do it without pulling it but i'm not getting into that) but on top of it, it's Sline vs A. S is definately more sporty, and if your willing to put some money into it, the s4 can be a serious beast. I may be a little biest, because i have a 2.7t and love it. But something to consider, at about 65k + you going to have to get the timing belt done, it's not something you want to have conk out on you. As far as reliablity that's left to question, depending on the work done, by whome and with what parts can all change the reliability factor. I had my s4 for 9 or 10 months and one of my turbo's blew and my car only had 140k on it. I know there are ppl that are at nearly 200k and still stock, so it's left to question. N e way that's my 2cent's. Good luck with ur purchase

there are not to many reliability factors really with the s4. Mine is now at 120,000km (slightly modified) on stock turbos. Maybe cuz i dont beat the **** out of it. who knows
