UrS6 Instrumnet cluster not lighting up
I have a 1996 S6 and was adding a boost gauge to centre console and may have
caused a problem. When I turn ignition on the instrument cluster warning and
climate control lights come on. When I turn the headlights on, the climate
control, ashtray and odometer lights go out. Fuses seem OK. Bentley shows a
device in the instrument cluster that acts as "lighting booster". Is this
device likely toast?

Re: UrS6 Instrumnet cluster not lighting up
Tony,
It's possible, but it may not like the added draw of the lighting on the
boost gauge. On my 5ktq, I had the ol' dash lights off with the headlights
on problem. After tracing wires for an eternity, I replaced all the burned
out bulbs in the IC and it hasn't given me any problems since (I guess it
didn't like the reduction in load). If you daisy chained the boost gauge
light into the system, the draw may be too much (try bypassing the light).
If you have one power lead coming from the IC lights, and the boost gauge
light tied to it's own ground, the booster may not like the added ground
(try removing the bulb).
Cheers!
