Temptation! The A6?
I've been shopping for a 2001 low miles 1.8T Passat, since there
are some nice bargains out there as they're coming off leases. I was
at a dealership today to see a car and the ad was totally wrong about
it (wrong color, wrong trans listed, cloth interior). The salesman
said if I was looking for a leather, I should check out this A6 on the
lot. Gorgeous, drove great, not a bad price. The car I test drove was
a 2.7 Turbo, but I'd rather get a 2.8 V6 to save on money and
maintenance - I've got other cars for "fun."
Reviews I've read indicate that the 2.8 doesn't have enough power
for the weight of the A6, but enthusiast sites indicate the engine
responds well to aftermarket chip upgrades; power isn't increased, but
the torque band is moved lower for better pick up making the car much
more tractable. Any experiences with this on the group?
