I must have got the year wrong. This is a link to the
advert I bought it from, and it was quite clearly labelled
a 1.8T.

Also, it's definitely an A6, as I'm not keen on the shape
of the A4.
Thanks guys.

When you get the registration document, it'll tell you when exactly
the car was first registered. If it's not too personal a question,
how much did you pay for it? I recently bought a 1996 Audi A6 V6 2.6
for 1750 quid.

Re: New Audi owner
Looking at the ad the car picture shows a P reg plate but the ad says 1998.
This is quite possible if you have a "personalised plate" so you may well
have a 1998 A6 1.8T, the 1.8T was first available only with 97 R reg. Note
for this car there was a recent recall regarding early wear on the front
suspension arms (had them changed on both my A6s) I note from the dealer
notes you might also be in East Kent ? If you are looking for an
independent Audi/VW specialist I have used M & S Auto Services in Biddenden
www.m.s.autoservices.co.uk as they are much less expensive than my local
dealer.

Yep, that's definitely an A6 (C4 model), so could well be a 1996/early
1997 car. However, to the best of my knowledge, this model was never
sold in the UK with the 1.8 turbo engine. This would explain why you
can't find the model you /thought/ you'd bought in the Parkers guide! I
can't quite make out the badge on the photo of the rear of your car, but
I think it just says 1.8, without a 'T'.
Can you find the engine code (on a sticker in the front of the original
service booklet), or somewhere in the boot (on the floor or in the spare
wheel well). That will allow us to confirm exactly what engine was
originally fitted. Of course, it may well be that someone has swapped
the engine at some stage.
Can you find a turbo in the engine bay? The turbo engine is most easily
identified by the more complex induction pipework - both the inlet and
exhaust pipework has to go through the turbo.
